Delayed

Hi, No post on Friday due to illness. Nothing serious, just a cold. The annoying type that induces a level of sneezing, in which if you had a wind farm, you’d have solved the energy crisis. 😉 Plus, I’m now suitably voiced to catch up on my deathgrowl guest vocals. 🤘 Don’t mention the 30s I’m hoping erudite readers will be able to unravel this conundrum for me. As background, there’s a certain group of UK folk who are very pro free speech. You may have heard them saying “you can’t say anything these days” and then promptly saying – on TV, in the paper, and/or on-line – the thing you apparently can’t say. Oh, and then discussing it with […]

Resetting

Hi, On a home life point of view, there’s been a series of small, but rather good, spots of luck. Honestly, it feels good to be able to write about things positively. Off To start with, I had some leave to use up and that shortened last week very nicely. Not only that, but the Ever Lovely Mrs J was able to book time off too. This week was suitably interrupted by that unusual occurrence: a day off and nowhere I had to be. Well, it would be rude – and possibly regrettable – not to…. So I went out. 🏳️‍🌈 With spring nearly here, summer months away, and yet weather considerably wintery, I was in somewhat of a ditz […]

Giving in

Hi, It’s Friday and I’ve had the day off. I think there’s a lot to be said about a four day week (but five days pay). Indeed, another research study has shown some very positive results. Not just for the employee, but the productivity (and morale) gains for the organisation. I guess one can dream right? No news yet on my application to drop my hours, as it seems to be working through the system. Puzzling skies This week has been a bit of a mixed bag. Dark clouds gathered – and not in a cool sword raising I have the powwwwer! kinda way. 😁 Mind you, must be a right pain finding clothes to fit that ripped frame. No […]

Script: Testing times

A number of mostly middle-aged women wait outside a meeting room. Inside, two people can be seen moving tables and chairs around. Karen: Oh, sorry I’m late everyone. Couldn’t park. Oh, what’s that on the door? Jenny: Hi Karen. We’ve not started yet, so you’re not late. Oh, that thing on the wall? It’s a Legitimiser. Karen: A what? Sarah: Hi Karen. I think it’s a… smartlock? A new thing that cheeks if you are allowed to enter the office spaces. Jenny: Apparently it keeps folk out who aren’t known to it. That and it’s linked to a camera and alarm system. Karen: Alarms and cameras? Good, no more riffraff spoiling things for us proper locals! I had to shoo […]

Love will win

What can one say to a parent who has had their child murdered? I remember the bleakness of grief my parents experienced following the death of my sister. How they somehow managed to keep going, I do not know…. nor do I wish to ever know. To those in power, shame on you for the filth that drops from your mouth and the crocodile tears shed in false outrage. Your lies and bile brought us here. Just, stop. Stop before there’s another, and another, and another… Look my son in the eye. Hold your gaze and say unflinching, that he’s a risk, when you know he’s more likely to be attacked than be the attacker. Look at him and say […]

Queen for a night

Hi, How are you getting on? Hopefully well or maybe moving in the right direction. Oh, and a note of thanks for those of you who shared their experiences on self care. 💜 Given it was Chams last night, this may well turn into one of those slightly chipper posts that usually follows. Well, more cheerful, rather than branch mulching. 😉 Apologies to any tree surgeons who’ve been lured here by Google Bard 😋 Time Due to the fall of the holiday year and the good luck to carry over a handful of unused leave days, the Ever Lovely Mrs J and I have had today off. Cue “which was nice.” 😁 It’s also thirty years since we met. I […]
