Hi,
No post on Friday due to illness. Nothing serious, just a cold. The annoying type that induces a level of sneezing, in which if you had a wind farm, you’d have solved the energy crisis. 😉 Plus, I’m now suitably voiced to catch up on my deathgrowl guest vocals. 🤘
Don’t mention the 30s
I’m hoping erudite readers will be able to unravel this conundrum for me. As background, there’s a certain group of UK folk who are very pro free speech. You may have heard them saying “you can’t say anything these days” and then promptly saying – on TV, in the paper, and/or on-line – the thing you apparently can’t say. Oh, and then discussing it with someone else around the people not stopping them from saying it even more. I’m very confused.
I’ve heard there’s this thing called a ‘world cup’ – it’s a ball kicking competition, apparently and very popular too, so I’ve read – and it was held in a country with a very poor Human Rights record. Gary Lineker spoke out about this a few months back and that was deemed to be fine. You may have read that he’s also spoken out against the current administration’s ‘small boats’ policy… and now the free speech folk are cross he’s, uhh, being free to express his opinion. Just to add to the situation, fellow football commentators will also be exercising their right to, well, not speak over the weekend football in support of Gary Lineker.
To add to the above, it’s been reported the BBC are (at the time of writing) are not going to broadcast an episode of a nature series, as it might upset those with climate sceptic views. My heart truly goes out to those who are unable to accept the scientific evidence from respected institutions. 🙄 It must be a terrible emotional burden having to ignore evidence and reasoned scientific consensus 😜
Maybe there’s a need to provide a comforting news channel? One where the pesky details of the impact of failed economic and environmental policies are not shown.
A cynical person might wonder if all the huff and puff is some sort of distraction. I mean, is not like living standards are dropping in the UK, the rivers are fouled, or there’s little to no progress on attempting to act on Climate Change. Hmm.
Sadly, no news that scientists have been able to convert sarcasm into electricity. I’d have been quids in. Doubly so with the sneeze powered wind farm. 😉
Slap
No, not a reference to the Oscars, but to cosmetics. Last time out, I managed to pick up some DoubleDaywear and this Thursday night, I decided to give it a try.

It has more coverage compared to my usual Clinique foundation and the MUA (make-up artist) was right about needing a good primer underneath. It also needed a slight change in powder application compared to what I’m used to. But, all that said, I was pleased with the finish and I think I might need to invest.
Oh, talking of delays, I finally got around to sending some positive feedback to the company and MUA who helped me. I’ve had a reply from Customer Services saying they’ll pass on the details to both the person and their line manager.
Thursday
Despite the snow and cold, the roads to Chams HQ were okay. The carpark was a bit dicey, so I was glad to be in boots rather than trying to get across in heels.
I guess the weather conditions put a few folk off and that’s understandable. This made it a smaller meeting than usual, bit that’s not a bad thing. It changes the dynamic a little, but variety can be a good thing.
I’m not sure if it was the weather or if the road works had finished, in that it didn’t take long to arrive. I had packed a few cold weather items – my biker boots, a jumper dress, and leggings – but I settled on my new skirt, a vintage* jumper from the Ever Lovely Mrs J, and some much loved knee boots.

The jumper feels vintage given I think it may be from the mid 90s. Both one of those colours and styles that come back around. Given a certain shade of pink is ‘in this season’ why not rewear and enjoy! (Thanks to Ann for the photo. Val, I hope you got back okay and are well rested 💜 Oh, and get well soon, Izzy! 🤧).
We had another new visitor as Renée had introduced a friend to the group, plus a returnee from the time before. I know I say this a fair bit, yet meeting new folk and seeing people return is a good thing. Perhaps the smaller numbers helped them all more and he involved. You can only hope.
We heard about a member’s coming out at work and how that had gone really well. Despite the hostile nonsense said about trans folk, Jo(e) Public continues to be accepting and work policies help protect vulnerable from any workplace unpleasantness.
All in all, lots of good news.

Feeling a lot better now thanks, but I have infected my youngest, which isn’t fun.
Sorry I had to miss it, but I guess it probably saved me a poor drive.
Hope your cold is improving ! The jumper looks very nice, and most appropriate for the weather.
Good to hear you’re feeling better and hopefully your youngest will be over it quickly as well.
My cold was just a one day thing, thankfully. I would’ve preferred not to have had it, but no-one on the night had one. Just the much of the draw I guess!
Thanks for the kind words about the jumper. They’re not something I wear very often. I think one too many 80s nightmare examples have made me shun them. But, this was fairly classic and a lovely material too.
For 90s indie fans “pure new wool and perfect stitches, not the kinda jumper that makes you itches, oh no…” 😁
I’m just here to stan the sleeves of that sweater! Also acknowledge any and all analogies to the times titular. Also also, alliteration. Apparently. 🙂
Agreed. Avoid alliteration aggressively and allow alternatives against acquired angst. 😉
You know, I think that’s only the second time I’ve seen the word “stanning” in the wild. Maybe I need to get out more! 😁
Yes, the sleeves were quite the novelty. The split and weight made it difficult not to enjoy folding then over or rewrapping them.
Again, I probably need to get out more. Still, easily pleased is not necessarily a bad thing, IMO.
