Hi,
A later post than usual today. Well, if you were expecting one last Friday, this one is indeed, rather delayed.
There was no post last week, as our elderly lady doggo was not well, bless her. We’d been to the vets a few times over the last few months, and each time she’d bounced back. B was a tough old girl ♥️
Given her age, the health issues, and she wasn’t eating well; we knew it was time. We’d hoped that she’d pull through over the weekend, as she’d always done so in the past.
The heat – dare I say, the insufferable heat – didn’t help her over the weeks previous. We moved her upstairs for the Ever Lovely Mrs J’s aircon, but that didn’t help.
So it was that we faced the decision dog owners don’t want to make, but know that they must. The multiple dimensions of guilt, sadness, grief, not wanting your doggo to suffer, and when it’s more about them, than you.
On Monday afternoon we said our goodbyes. She had a huge anesthetic and the lethal injection, as we soothed her as best we could. She passed quickly and without distress or pain.
I was in bits and really B was more Mrs J’s & Child 2.0’s doggo than mine. B was certainly closer to them and that was always okay.
The heartache of losing an animal who is so important to you, is awful. Yet, when you weigh up the smiles, the laughs, the happy memories; that’s why we continue to have dogs in our life. We would not be as active nor as social without them. Those and the joy of seeing them run the garden, sleep tucked up in a bed, or just lazing in the sun.
Today we visited a rescue charity and picked up a new hound. I hope we did right by B, and gave her the best forever home & retirement we could.
Here’s hoping the new pooch settles in okay.
Chams stuff
Chams coming up gave me something else to focus on. I’ve tweaked the forum plugins by moving the upcoming birthdays to the top, reporting on unused accounts, and a better photo gallery gadget.
To test the latter, I found an old photo that used to be on the front page of the old website. I think it was from the early 2010s, so we’ve all changed a bit since then!
A night out
With the recent rain and more cloud, things have finally cooled down here. Indeed, the lawn has returned to being green rather than looking like baked straw.
I am about a week away from my waxing appointment, so I had to dress around the issue, so to speak 🙂 I did wonder if some spring weather tights might do it, but the Centre was too hot when I arrived. Luckily I’d packed an emergency maxi dress just in case, so the Wookie festival was averted 🙂
I did, however, make a complete mess of my lipstick which required a fix it, then complete removal, and then a makeup patch up to cover the removal. Oof, what a faff.
The evening itself went well and we had a quiet start to things. Good to see some new folk visiting again, as well.
Photos from the evening. Thank you, Val 🙏

Luckily for us, it’s a bank holiday weekend, so we get extra time off. I feel I could do with it! 🙂

Such sad news, but important to share – definitely something many of us can empathise with, it’s never easy to say goodbye, but when you know there has been a life well lived, you can focus on the joy she brought.
Also it seems trite, given, but well, that’s a very lovely dress Lynn – you are rocking it! X
Thank you, Sarah 🙏 B had a lovely summer holiday with us not too long ago, and she was fit as a fiddle back then. Certainly not acting her age, the little minx! ♥️ You’re absolutely right about the joy B brought. Not just to us, but folk we’d see on walks and at cafés. B was certainly a character.
Ta for the kind words about the dress. It’s from “This Is Unfolded” and they have a sale on at the mo. Go on, it’s been payday 😉
I’m very sorry to hear about your doggo, B. They say all dogs go to heaven, where the bones are extra juicy, the postmen don’t mind being chased and there are infinite fabulous smells to investigate. Whether that’s true or not, your lovely girl is not suffering any more, even if those left behind suffer their loss. I’m glad you have a new doggie and, given how much you’ve done to explain the decency of dogs to me who’ve had some bad experiences with them, I know your new family member will have a very loving, caring home and be happy. Sending you a hug for your sadness and an e-pet to your new pooch.
For what it’s worth, I read the science press and there’s a long article this month in one journal about how many households today may be seen as “multi-species families”. Once domestic animals – cats, horses, falcons, dogs, etc – were owned to work, but now that human families are less close-knit, the companionship role of animals has come to the fore.
I think we’ve seen that frock before and it’s pretty and looks cool.

Thanks Sue. Hopefully B will keep Saint Dolly of Parton company, and they can get up to some divine naughtiness. It is very difficult emotionally speaking to make the choice. However, as awful and as hard as it is, we would not want to be without our furry ne’er-do-wells ♥️
Yes, the dress is a rewear and I think I had it on at the last but one Chams. Very comparable it is too, and made ethically to boot.
Always tough to lose a pal.
Thank you, Juliet. Yes, it was very difficult. Perhaps, though, better a day early than a day too late ♥️
All my sympathies. It’s never an easy decision and there’s a whole mix of conflicting emotions that come with it. Hoping the new family member is settling in. Does he/she have a name yet? (or, knowing you, a Significant Initial)
I love Sue’s idea of dog heaven having an infinite number of interesting new smells to investigate.
Thank you, Susie. Yes, you’re completely on the money around that emotional conflict. I think the best thing I can say is, B passed away without any pain and with the people who loved her.
‘S’ the new hound is settling in slowly. She’s been in kennels for most of her life, so Sue’s comment about infinite smells (apologies for missing that, Sue) is very apt. We’re, what, two days in and S isn’t pacing, but is resting, sleeping through, and toileting is going okay, bless her.
I’m sorry to hear that your doggo has crossed the rainbow bridge. But I’m sure that you will have happy memories of her,and you did a wonderful thing in sharing your lives with her. And now you are giving another doggo a happy home. That’s wonderful.
I do like that dress. It’s lovely.

Thanks Dee 🙏 We’ve many happy memories and lots of photos & videos of B. Seeing her scoot about the snow with such joy is still one of my favourites. That and seeing her nose pop up by the table, sniffing for our dinner.
As you say, here’s hoping we can do the same for S: kindness, comfort, care, and a loving home ♥️
PS: Thanks for the kind words about the dress.
