The Slow Outing Club

Hi, With Autumn half-term upon us, the Ever Lovely Mrs J and Child 2.0 decided on a last minute trip for a few days. They’re both now back, safe & well, having enjoyed their roadtrip to some historic sites down south. Muggins here, stayed home to look after the hounds, and as my snoring isn’t great when we share a room; ensure my lovely partner and teen get a good rest. But how might I pass the time, home alone, once the dogs are walked and the morning chores sorted? Well, I wonder 😉 Getting ready As I was on my Todd yesterday, I had a rare gift of not being in bloke gear, and needing to get changed. Instead […]

Curveballs

Hi, No, not a medical condition – thankfully!😉 – but when things don’t quite go as expected, and you need to flex. Last week, I had the chance for a morning out and I had hoped to meet up with Val for a coffee & a chat. Due to some unavoidable work complications, unfortunately, Val was needed elsewhere. No fault or blame here, things change and sometimes you’ve got to bend with the wind. Yes, the breeze, not the other type! 😉 With time on my hands, I decided to switch things around and head down to Leicester instead. It had been an age since I was last there and I think altering your routine is good for the old […]

A holiday from him

Hi, With GCSEs and school over, the Ever Lovely Mrs J has treated Child 2.0 to a mini break in Europe. Before anyone rings Child Services, I should add she’s gone with him 🙂 They’re currently somewhere in northern Europe visiting museums, taking in the sights, and enjoying a much deserved break. I feel I should point out that today’s title is not about our lovely boy, but Yours Truly enjoying a break from being the usual me. If you’re curious as to why I’ve not gone – or if you’re not, I’m going to tell you anyway 😉 – we have three hounds and sorting out immunisation jabs, kennel stay, etc; well, it’s a massive faff. Plus, given all […]

Breaking the spell

Hi, Shall we have a positive post to break things up a bit? It’s been a bit of tricky few weeks of late, so hopefully this will help break the cycle. ( Perhaps it would’ve been quicker to ask a level 6 friend to cast Remove Curse, but that may be a geek reference too far 🤓 Then again, could someone cast it across the UK? I feel we need help 😉 ). Moving on… Background At the risk of sounding like a character from The Fast Show – oddly, something I didn’t really watch – this week I have mostly been acting as a house husband. No, not married to a house (cue hOUses dEm4nd maRridge rigHts – iTs […]

Magical Big Girl Pants

Hi, I think I’m going to just dive in and waffle my way out of stumbling around this post 🙂 I know: what’s new! 😉 It’s not been an easy week and certainly one of highs and lows. The bad news is the awful treatment of helpline volunteers at Mermaids and this resulted in the charity closing the line for a time. There’s not much I can do (I doubt my MP will listen), so I’ve donated to help top up the funds. At least that feels like doing something. In more positive news, I’ve been trying to focus on the moment rather than being such in my head. I stumbled upon a phrase – I am not my thoughts […]

The Balancing Act

Hi, Someone once said – or more accurately, sang – it’s not easy being green. I make this point only as a pop culture reference and a warm up to the idea of the obvious metaphor at play. So, by a series of fortunate events, it came to pass that I had a day out. With messing things up last week and knowing that I’ll miss next week’s meeting, I was beginning to feel the pinch of being in just one gender.I feel guilty at what I think of as sneaking out, yet at the same time – either through self-kindness or self-delusion, the jury’s still out – that ol’ inner stress ratchet was clicking slowly but ever upwards. Due […]
