When your label drops off

Hi, Earlier this month I posted about having a spot of bother in getting off to sleep…. and that was before this week’s heatwave. Still, having the air-con on a comfortable 19 made last night’s trip (in bloke mode) to Chameleons much more tolerable. Anywho, one of the things my mind was doing, was going over what I might write for a presentation in a few months. No, not work-related, but transgender outreach kinda thing. It’s not so much that I don’t know how to start it and I’ve got a brief from the organisation on what they want. It’s more… it’s more that I’m struggling a bit with the identity of saying I’m trans*. BTW, there’s a rather good […]

Stillness

Hi, This week on our development course – that’s helping others develop, not us (well sorta) – we had a visit from a counsellor. She specialised in getting people to get outside and to join her on walks in the countryside. As an icebreaker, she asked us to think of our preferred natural habitat. Before you think it, it wasn’t swanning about en femme someplace 🙂 I’ve said this a few times before on this blog, but my go-to place for tranquillity – either in my head or in the real world – is woodland. Ideally old woods, with huge trees that reach up to the sky and whose branches splay out to cover the sky that beautiful mix of […]

Hopeful

Hi, The clocks have gone back, the night’s have drawn in and the trees are the more gorgeous shades of red and yellow. Hello, proper autumn. A time for long walks to take in the warming rays of the sun and to enjoy the light, before Winter throws a cold, dark – and frequently wet – blanket over dear Old Blighty. At least, that’s the vibe around here, out in the sticks near Jones Towers. Not that I mind. I do love a walk in the woods. Much as I like a spot of city shopping or disco dolly moments, in bloke mode, forests, for me, is where it’s at. There’s something mentally refreshing about being out in nature. The […]

“I have a really bad feeling about this.”

Hi, This week has been somewhat of a strange journey. The Good, the Bad, the Average and Unique, as a favourite band of mine once sang. Let’s start with the good stuff and end of a high, eh? The Good… I was so glad to see the rain today. Down it came, in sheets and torrents, spilling through flooded gutters and pooling in patterned puddles, that danced under the droplets. And yes, down came the temperature and the cloying heat that had hung about Nottingham. Hot weather, nice for lazing around in, bad news for trans folk and folk at work. Outside for a change Thursday night was a night out to Chameleons and it was bordering on too warm. […]

“But you light up, and keep me out the cold.”

Hi, After posting earlier in the year that it was rather warm, Winter’s icy blanket came to rest across large parts of the UK. Now, I like walking in snow, I like the look of it and I particularly like the odd crunching sound it makes as you stroll around though it. Yeah, I’m odd like that. Childhood memories and the magic of a snowy winter with a good sledge. Anyways, the only bits I’m not so keen on are that it’s been so cold and driving in it, is not so much fun. Still, the roads are pretty clear right now and what with winter boots being the sale – yay! – bargains were snagged by the Ever Lovely […]
