Cutting down

Hi, How’s things? Hopefully ticking along nicely. I have, at least for me, some minor good news. Over the last few weeks, a few friends have been saying how they’ve lost weight. I would usually reply that I’d found it. Well, it seems I had the tipping point about two weeks ago. I was after some smart trousers (see later) and while trying on my go to size, 16, I realised that unless I started to cut down, it would be sayonara 16, as much as it was farewell 14. What raised a wry smile was the recollection that as I got dressed (in bloke clothes) each morning, I was snubbing jeans or t-shirts that no longer fit. Instead, plumping […]

Shall we take a test?

Hiya, The white space that’s the Blogger interface has been open a good twenty minutes, and yet, other than right now, I’ve yet to put anything in. Not that I’ve writers block or anything, I’m either easily distracted, or a terrible procrastinator. (Ed: The Procrastinator. He’ll be back… possibly… or not. Maybe). This week has been a little full on for my liking. Not that there’s been much drama (thankfully!), just it was all rather hasty. [ Update: apparently, this is my 500th post. ] When in doubt, just ask Tuesday, I stopped off at an out of town shopping park to see if they had the shoes I wanted. They did, but they’d moved the shoes into the middle […]

Looking forward

Hi, How was Christmas? I hope you had a good festive break. I hesitate to use the word ‘holiday’, on the grounds that the rush up the the big day, seems anything but. With all the present buying, wrapping, food prep and visits; I’m glad of the down time period between then and New Years. Not that we get up to much at New Year’s. In days of old, the Ever Lovely Mrs J and I would go to an alt rock club in town, but that must be nearly 20 years ago now. I’m 40+ and I’m not careful, my waist will soon match my age. 🙂 So year, I’m quite happy to stay at home, get the kids […]

Quiche From Mars

Hi, This week’s Blogger Challenge is to talk about food. Where to start with this one? 🙂 People’s relationship with food seems, to me at least, as varied as there are people. It’s – not to be Master of the Obvious – something we cannot go without. Okay, if you’re a sparkly faced sun dodger, maybe you drink, you fictional pedant, but it’s still food, even if it’s not eating 🙂 I’ve been fat, I’ve been too thin and now, I’m probably on the heavy side for my height. The thing is, I love the varieties and wonderful combinations of flavours, scents and textures that there are in the culinary world. I’m not a portion size queen: I’d rather have […]

Under the bridge

Hi, Not a reference to the rather good Red Hot Chili Peppers, nor the shambolic pop mauling from All Stains – sorry, Saints. 😛 As I made my way to Chameleons last night, so I drove under the new bridge by Queen’s Medical Centre. It’s been a while coming and as I’ve sat in traffic on the way home, I’ve watched it be slowly assembled and now, it straddles the dual carriage way, ready to take the next phase of the tram from the city out to Clifton. It’s nice to see the money I’ve been charged for being able to park at work on land the firm owns, put to use 😉 I would have liked to have taken […]
