Dumb ideas for the history book

Hi, The other day I happened to fall on an article about the positives of journaling. Now, I think we can say that blogging isn’t quite the same as the former, but it may not be sat too far away on the bench. Yes, there’s stuff I do not write about on YATGB. There are family matters, stories that aren’t mine to tell, and – honestly – things that I think are fab, but would bore the socks off you. Stop that snoring at the back! 😉 Differences aside, I think there’s still something magical about the old blogging lark. Firstly, there is the ability to write about the Good Stuff, whatever that is. For me, that – despite the […]

Inspired

Hi, Ah the warmth of the turning to spring, a day off, and a proverbial pocketful of, uhh, positives. What’s not to like? 🙂 Lights in dark woods I could’ve said ‘literary inspo’, but I are an Old, and not down with ‘da kidz’. Do you still put ‘yo’ on the end of that to maintain your props or cred? Sorry, I mean ‘rizz’. 🙃 Okay, enough with the unhip dadness vibes. I’m GenX, so I don’t give a ***k 😁 [ breath…. and focus ] I do not read as much as I used to. Like most of my hobbies, they lean towards the geeky and nerdtastic, because that’s exactly the sort of things I like. Left of the […]

What is it I’m seeing?

Hi, Ah the luxury of a long weekend, shuffling of part-time hours, and hints of spring. All steps forward in the contentment piggy bank 🐖 The Easter holidays are upon us, so Child 2.0 is taking a much deserved break from school. Well, I say break, but our lovely lad is catching up on coursework and revision. It’s not long until his A levels, bless him. On Thursday we had a family trip out into the moorland up in the Peaks and it was gorgeous. Hardly anyone around, bright blue skies, the distant call of birdsong, and winding paths across the stonewalled landscape. All that plus doggos and perfect weather. That day for off to a good start as while […]

TDOV 2026

Hi, Ah, the occasional and somewhat rare midweek post 🙂 Every year on 31st March, we celebrate a Trans Day of Visibility across the world. I will not go into the nonsense and hate we’re currently experiencing as a community – frankly, there’s not the time, and secondly we see enough of the Useful Idiots being platformed on and by the media. Ragefarming, anyone? 🙄 For those of out & about today, congratulations and thank you. For those of you not up to much today, may I say that’s okay too? It’s not always easy to do so – home, family, health, and/or work commitments, etc. It may be that you, like me, don’t have the opportunity to do so. […]

Ignoring the stream of negativity

Hi, After last week’s micro-wobble, a visit to Chams to see friends and some time out of ‘bloke mode’ has done me a world of good. Funny that such a simple thing – well, I say simple! – helps me settle and become comfortable again. I suppose that “birds of a feather” phrase, in that it’s people who get it, and who understand. No need to keep the proverbial mask on, and conversations flows naturally, with no second guessing. Maybe a shorter phrase would be authenticity 🙂 But, this all this helps. Reasons indeed to be thankful. Self Care At the start of the week, I tried a bit of self-care to help push the cobwebs away, and let in […]

That’s no moon

Hi, I nearly started the introduction with “hello there”, which may ring a few bells if you’re a sci-fi nerd (like me) or have used the Internet any time in the last ten years 😉Still, we have our title, and possibly, a tie in with the graphic below. I feel that labels are shortcuts and as such, trim a long story to a short one – and in some cases, a single word. However, if the history of YATGB has taught me anything, it’s that I don’t do short explanations 🙃 Excuse me while I rev up the hyper-waffle-drive… 😉 Two scoops of ice-cream…. a dash of maple syrup…. and we’re off! [ Today I learned: To be genderfluid may […]
