When it all goes well

Hi, Do you find that there are some days, in which a lot gets done? Not so much the churn of work and the cycle of back to back meetings for the unlucky, but that the Fates smile and you have a day to remember. Thursday was that day for me and I feel very lucky for it. Thank you TrendCo A number of weeks ago, I was talking with the Ever Lovely Mrs J about the (now long passed) birthday situation and my lovely partner asked – with a cheecky smile – if there was anything I wanted in the fancy department. Where that is in a particular store, I don’t know, but it sounds ah-may-zing 😁 Camp jokes […]

Short on time

Hi, In conversation with the Every Lovely Mrs J, I realised that the Jones Crew had not been into town since February. Sure, there’s been the school run, occasional supermarket shop or pick up, but no visit to the town centre. Perhaps like a growing number of folk, it’s a lot easier to get things online. Not just Amazon, but looking at our recent purchases: school uniform, the lawn mower, kids casual clothes (EMP \m/ ), chocolates for Mrs J, and occasional fabulousness for Muggins here: none was collected from the high street. I would stress the occasional on my clothing and shoe purchases, due to working from home a lot and six months of no Chams visits. Okay, the […]

Retro

Hi, Currently, the BBC is running through music from the 90s. Perhaps as modern production is made more difficult, we look back more frequently. Digging through the stack of programmes of yesteryear..A more jaded person might say that with all that’s going on in the world, looking back is comforting and a natural reaction to retreat. Well, I’d challenge that particular notion given the musical equivalent of drying paint from the identikit packaged pop of SAW. No wonder indie and rave bloomed during this time 😛 Possibly the long shadow of punk’s Have A Go and the steady rise of accessible computing helped too. Perhaps also an element of being cooped up under a decade of slowly tightening right wing […]

Judgement

Hi, I was listening to a colleague, ‘C’, talk about how COVID19 had affected their daily life within their village community. Social activities were on hold, people talked at a distance across the lane, and folk were extra careful in the smaller shops. One item that caught my interest was about C’s friend, who for health reasons cannot wear a mask. Whatever that condition is, C didn’t specify and I didn’t press as it felt rude. The line that jumped out was C saying how frequently her friend was stated at, side eyed, and judged for not wearing a mask. It seems the Sunflower Campaign has not reached all parts of the country. I felt empathy for the person in […]

Six months later

Hi, In usual YATGB style this will be a bit of a ramble around the subject. Ah, if I was to be paid by the word eh? 😉 The other day, the Ever Lovely Mrs Jones said that her mum was thinking of visiting, but was put off by the drive. For the record, Granny J lives north of the city and we’re very much on the southern edges of the county. We had a conversation about how when you don’t do things regularly when you do need to, they become a bit tricky. Tricky as intimidating, worrisome, etc. So it was that on Wednesday evening, I was in a bit of a dither when it came to packing my […]

Renew

Hi, Due to a small and welcome windfall, I bought a new dress and heels this week. The shoes were a small eight so they will have to go back. That’s what I’m trying myself, rather than saying a wide nine may have been a wiser choice. Still, no need to worry about car parking, just a trip to the Post Office and they’ll go back without fuss. I am hoping that somehow, all will be well with a Thursday night out. It seems an age since I dressed and I am slightly nervous on the organisation of the night. That and, will I remember how to do my makeup or style my hair? Maybe that’s just the nerves talking. […]
