The Memory of Things

Hiya, Last weekend, the Ever Lovely Mrs J bought a new car. Well, new to us, anyway. What it is and that we’ve bought it, aren’t fully relevant to this post. What is, at least for me, is the concept of the memory of things. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m a hoarder, although I’ve certainly got more stuff than I need and clothes that I wear. I do have clear outs. At least twice a year, I go through what I have and if I’ve not worn it for six months, or – and this is more usual – it doesn’t fit, out it goes. Despite that, there are some items I am loathed to get […]

Gut-con One

Hi, It’s odd this blogging lark. I’ve pondering writing this entry for a little while and, I’ll be honest here, not one of the opening starting with a sweeping musical score, birds singing gaily in the trees (birds don’t have an issue with silly marriage exclusivity rules apparently) and bring sunshine dappled across the the rolls hills and forests. No, most of them where the pounding crunch of flat boots across the gravel of bones, the swish of a dark cape and a fanfare of sonorous brass…. Bugger. Even my darker moments are camp. 🙂 So, what’s the big deal? The Drama Du Jour? It all seems a bit silly, but then – as I’ve said elsewhere – emotions don’t […]

“A m*****f***ing chain saw, what!!”

Gah! Seems I’ve moved on from ‘meh’. What’s this two posts in as many days? Well, strike while the distress is hot, I say. These last two days have been less than ideal. Not that anything bad has happened: my loved ones are all safe, there’s no Great Disaster looming….. well, I hope not. I know Kim’s thinking about kicking off, but really, just calm it down chap, okay? It’s not going to end well and really, a war? C’mon. Save the big talk and sabre rattling for another day. Turn the nuke plant off – unless you’re running the country’s AC with it – and have a look at Dorothy Perkins’ new stock. You’ll feel better for it. 🙂 […]

“I’ve got no enthusiasm,
for burgers or computers”

Hello one and all, I shall be glad when this week is little but a memory. Not that it has been awful or scary, just one very long slog. It all started last week when my work computer – that’s at home – went pop. Yes, it’s an odd arrangement, in that the old kit that’s not recycled / broken up, ends up being used by employees for working remotely. Of course, the trouble with old equipment – regardless of brand – is that it can be a bit temperamental…. with emphasis on the temper and mental. I’ll try and keep the tale of IT Woe short. Let’s just say that I spent most evenings this week trying to get various bits […]

“How can I change the world if I can’t even change myself?
I cannot change the way I am?
I don’t know, I don’t know.”

Hey folks, In my best New York accent, how ya doin’? 🙂 All good I trust. This week has been…. mixed, which I guess is par for the course for us. Monday meant it was time for another appointment of CBT enlightenment….. and…. and…. Bum. I’ve run out of steam. :- I was hoping to say something positive about the experience, but you know what? I’m struggling. Things went okay, we talked about the power of emotions and the concept of ‘armouring yourself’ against the (Ed: slings and arrows? 😛 ) day to day roll of negative thoughts. We also went through one of the off-line exercises – off-line as in: your task this week is to… – I’d brought in. I’d picked […]

“I don’t like Mondays”

Hi folks! Imagine if you will, a large wedge of cheese. The thin end was my mood on Monday and the much wider, fatter, tastier end, Friday. I don’t know why or how my brain thinks in strange analogies, but it does. Luckily, today’s is wude. So as Sir Bob once crooned about disliking the whole Monday she-bang (Ed: that’s not a dodgy web site, BTW :-P), so to was I feeling less than chipper. I think it may have been a combination of knowing I had a full week of work ahead, feeling a bit miffed with the diet and also the worry that the anti-dog (Black Dog) tablets were not longer cutting the proverbial mustard. Hmm, another food reference. […]
