Talks

Hi, I think I’m getting rather attached to these short working weeks 😋 More time outside walking with the hounds and the Every Lovely Mrs J. Plus, occasional sunshine and stopping for coffee. I had Thursday morning off to run an online talk. A local government organisation had got in touch with Chams a few months back and asked for a workshop. After quizzing them about their needs and hopes about the session, we agreed a two hour event and that’s helped put some money in the group’s bank account. I’m never quite sure how such things will go and there was the usual touch of middle class guilt about hoping said customers would get their money’s worth. However, such […]

Letters to trans kids

After seeing this over on Pink News, I thought I’d try my hand a letter. Dear friend, How’s things going? Hopefully well given all that’s going on. If not, well, yeah, life can be tough or a bit pants even. I guess the latter is ‘Old’ language when we’re trying not to say ‘shit’. 🙂 It was decades ago since I was a kid and trans stuff then is not like it is now. The language was limited and wasn’t really ours. Gay rights were still being fought for. Indeed, the parallel between a hostile government trying to stop children from finding out about being gay (hello Section 28), and where we are now with trans teens. The same old […]

The short week

Hi, If you listen carefully, you might hear the soft sound of contentment. The mythical four day week that lets us recharge and enjoy time away from the red tape machines. For yours truly, it’s been shorter than that, as I booked Thursday of as well. Given the Ever Lovely Mrs J is signed off ill, both children are off – and I am still getting used to Wee Man’s university schedule – it seemed a good idea to have a family lunch out. Talking of Mrs J, we had some good news from the medical experts, so fingers crossed things are going in the right direction now. She’s clearly not 100% yet. However, as after going out, she fell […]

Scribbles

Hi, Two posts in a week. Well, quantity even if not quality eh? 😉 Writing stuff like the Script things, it’s, well, a challenge. Partly it’s getting the idea into a shape that matches what’s in my head. There’s been a few that haven’t seen the light of day for that reason. There’s enjoyment to be had in getting the character’s voices out there, but sometimes the idea doesn’t land well on the page. If that’s about the concept, the execution, or both, I’m not sure. 😉 But, I guess like walking in heels, you don’t get it right first time and you need to put the hours in. Plus, like trying a new look, sometimes things work and sometimes […]

Is it little victories?

Hi, How’s things with you? Over here in Chez Jones, it’s been somewhat up and down. Not just with yours truly, but seemingly all of us. Perhaps I shouldn’t be dosing the tea with medical grade hallucinogens? 🤔 The Ever Lovely Mrs J had a bit of a dip given her health issues got on top of her. Wee Man, bless him, has restarted his medication and seems to be picking up after a rough start to university. Finally, Child 2.0 didn’t go to school today and they were in tears this morning, bless them. We think that maybe down to too much on at school. But sometimes, I think the best thing you can do is stop. Walk away […]

The strange lens

Hi, As I was getting ready the other night, I had one of those moments of why am I doing this? That sightly off-centre thought that makes you question what’s going on. It’s all the…. malarkey and faffing about. A close shave, packing a bag, strapping in to shapewear, painting my face various colours, and then putting on fake hair. It’s all a bit…. confusing at times. But, so to perhaps is yelling at eleven folk pushing a ball around the grass, getting involved in a fabricated drama about people who do not exist, or tapping madly on a plastic controller to move some coloured lights on a screen. Well, look who’s had their vitamin cynicism today 😉 Perhaps the […]
