Mr…. Smith, I presume?

Hi, Subject to Blogger’s scheduling system, you should be reading this, while I and the Jones Massive are lording it up on summer holiday. Those of you of a certain age, may wish to hum Cliff’s eponymous critique of the yearly trip. While, those of another age, may supplement The Young Ones as a backing group. (“Did you just call me a b*stard?!”). Lastly, those of you under 40, or not from the UK, may consider what on earth I’m prattling on about and skip to the next paragraph. 🙂 The next paragraph is a bit further down…. T’other day, a news stories popped into my social media feed. Entitled I was Transgender and Didn’t Know it… I’d suggest you […]

Just a statistic

Hi, Picture, if you will, a long copse of trees, a small car park and cool blue skies. It’s a short walk across a quiet road, into the shade of the woods and a soft, yet bright hello from a guide. You listen to the introduction about the museum, and the advice to wait for a school trip to finish. You wander on, curious to see the lay of the land. You walk along the gravel path, its stones grinding underfoot as you reach a tallish island of stacked rocks, amidst the meadow grass. There’s a statue on top of the rocks, perhaps a moose, or an elk. It’s too big to be a reindeer. Numerous signs are dotted around […]

Daring to dream

Hi, It’s been a somewhat odd day today. To start with, it’s a holiday weekend for the UK and given where I work, I get an extra day on Tuesday. Talk about a long weekend… and not that I’m complaining. 🙂 The Ever Lovely Mrs J, myself and our two nippers had gone into town to get new school shoes for the kids. While we were there, we stopped off at a bookshop. Yeah, I know you can get books cheaper on-line, but I still think there’s a lot to be said about being able to browse the books, see the stalls and sit down for a read before you buy. Yeah, I do own a Kindle and yes, I […]

Ghosts of the Past

Hi all, How’s things with you? For me, it’s been a bit of a strange week. A gentle dusting of dysphoria, the work/home/work/home treadmill, and yet… it’s the weekend, which always gives me a reason to be cheerful. Oh and Old Ginge – my wig has kindly been returned from it’s holiday. I shall look forward to retrying being a temporary redhead. 🙂 All good things. Oh and I’ve had a whiskey and ginger too. Mmm…. The Girl of Christmas Past I don’t know what it is. For me, I’ve always found a Friday night to have a certain amount of magic about it. The magic of potential, or just an escape from the regular, I couldn’t say. It might […]

“Hope is a good thing”

Hi, Another bank holiday weekend? I don’t mind if I do! 🙂 Oh, and it’s half term too, so an extra day with the nippers, will be time well spent. How are things with you and yours? All good I trust! Disagreement I would normally say, I’m not one for politics and if this isn’t your thing, do skip on to the next bit. There’s something about shoes and looking fancy. 😉 [ If you decide to ignore Lynn’s rant, go to page 65. If you decide to hear what she’s got to say, go to page 9. If you prefer to attack the Ork in a denim skirt using your +3 mascara wand of fabulosity, to give a much […]

House

No, not the dance around your handbag, nor the US medical drama. No, the place we live and grow up in. This week, the Jones Massive are on holiday and rather than opt for our usual rural idyll, we’re in the suburbs. We’re in a quaint 30s style semidetached that seems to be the archetypical suburban house. Three bedrooms, one bathroom, kitchen diner and living room. The drive is too narrow for most modern cars, so the concrete panel garages sit back from the road, nestled in well established gardens. Not doubt havens for mowers and spiders. The house is compact, but not pokey. It doesn’t have that anti-TARDIS gig going on that some modern houses have going on. 🙂 […]
