Travel and Tiaras

Hi, A short week, this week. The Jones Massive have had another summer break, albeit a long week. I know, lifestyles of the rich and famous, eh? Not that my bank account is looking well, that’s for sure. Still, a good time was had by all and despite the dining out, the sheer amount of walking we did, has worked wonders. I feel I have much more energy and, I get finally get back into my 36″ bloke jeans. Clearly, the daily 5 – 7 mile walks, have paid off. Note to self: more exercise. 🙂 We went to Prague and if you get chance, and for what it’s worth; I thoroughly recommend it. I think adding up the cost […]

Breaking the dry spell

Hi, This, is very much the life. I’ve had the luxury of a week off at home. I appreciate that may sound sarcastic, and in many ways, that’s my default tone. One of continual dry humour, but honestly, the Jones Family Staycation (apologies for anyone who dislikes portmanteaus), worked rather well. It’s not often you do the tourist thing in your local city. We’ve visited some ruins, been on long walks in the woods, had some very nice lunches out and risked a family day out, ice skating. Me and sport go together like ham and bicycle clips. But, you do your best and try not to break anything, when you fall over. I’ve worn some, shall we say, impractical […]

Daring to dream

Hi, It’s been a somewhat odd day today. To start with, it’s a holiday weekend for the UK and given where I work, I get an extra day on Tuesday. Talk about a long weekend… and not that I’m complaining. 🙂 The Ever Lovely Mrs J, myself and our two nippers had gone into town to get new school shoes for the kids. While we were there, we stopped off at a bookshop. Yeah, I know you can get books cheaper on-line, but I still think there’s a lot to be said about being able to browse the books, see the stalls and sit down for a read before you buy. Yeah, I do own a Kindle and yes, I […]

Ready boots? Start walking

Hi, It being half-term, at least, here in sunny and chilly Nottinghamshire, the Jones Massive have been away for a short break. Just along the road by an hour or so, for a rural getaway. I took great pleasure in switching my work phone off, and putting it in the draw. A holiday, for me, means a holiday and that means no work email or telephone calls. Not that anyone is likely to ring, I hasten to add, although making it easy would take the fun out of it 😉 Great views, even if you do get lost We stopped over in north Derbyshire and although the weather was very chilly, the rain stayed away. Plenty of cloud, high and […]

The case of the ironic applause

Hi, After last week’s post about music, I’ve been wandering YouTube’s dusty halls of albums of yesteryear. It’s a strange journey. One that takes you through disbelief (geez, did I actually buy this?), guilty pleasures to happy days and old favourites. A lot of the earlier stuff seemed to be rather shouty, but maybe that was the era. 🙂 There certainly didn’t seem to be much of a pattern, but then, I think that’s like the best things in life. Here’s to eclectic. Is this how middle age starts? You start looking back, rather than being in the now – whatever that is… ?Would it be wrong to say hashtag down-with-the-kidz?! 🙂 Frankly, if “the now” is X Factor and […]
