Hi, While reading the news this morning, I stumbled upon the story around Hungarian government’s anti LGBTQ stance. I’m not going to pick up on that because, well, either we’ll agree it’s not a good thing and get cross, or we’ll not agree and still get cross. 🙂 What piqued my interest was the reported comment from Xavier Bettel (Prime Minister of Luxembourg) and is out as a gay man, “I did not become gay because of something I saw on TV.” In my personal experience of being the T in the LGBTQ+ community – oh, and I do mean trans, and not “twit” or other insults 😉 – as a child, I knew something was up long before I […]

Voting with your purse

Hi, In the village not far from us, there’s a choice of two shops. The Co-op and not the Co-op. I’m not going to give the latter some free advertising and this post is about that. I don’t usually buy from the other shop, but the Co-Op didn’t have what I needed. As I stood in the socially distanced queue, I noticed some rainbow flags draped around the tills. Proudly supporting LGBTQ+ they proclaimed. Ah, how awesome. Funny. They seemed also to be stocking three red top ‘newspapers’ who have a very poor track record on LGBTQ+ matters. Hmm. Hi, As I walked along to the company car park with a colleague, I was listening as she explained how she’d cut back on her news consumption and also certain satirical programmes. This wasn’t through a lack of interest; no, more accurately, it was too much interest and the effect of the weight of the world upon her shoulders. The conversation ended as she headed to one end of the car park (with a cheery goodbye), and me to the other. Hi, It’s the start of half term. The last small break before the great length that is the summer holidays. I think both Little Miss and Wee Man will be glad of the break. One is working through exams, the other has finished her SATs. Testing, testing, one two three. Around we go and testing, there’s a word to conjure with. Earlier this week I caught a video from a training event at work. The presenter – a trans person – was going through the terminology on their slide deck. We run through trans-woman, trans-man, and along the wordage. We get to the cloud of terms where I’d probably sit: gender variant, cross-dresser. I hear on the audio track “…these […]

Hi, I was out at Chams last night and we had a visit from the fab Trendco team: Nicola and Steph. TrendCo, in case you don’t know, are our friendly neighbourhood wig experts. Chams was fairly busy, so there was a fair bit of interest in the wigs brought in. For me, a good wig is more than something that works for your face, or your outfit. It becomes, at least for me, a part of my identity. My current do is darker than my natural hair colour. While I’ve tried lighter colours, I find myself coming back to chestnut colours time and again. I’ve done long and medium hair, but collar length seems to be working for me. At […]

Hi, How’s things? Brr, it’s been a bit nippy in Dear Old Blighty, but so it goes in February. It seems Winter has a last hurrah and just when you think you might turn down the central heating eh?
