Brief Moments

Hi folks, Two quick shout outs today. Firstly, congratulations to Lucy on reaching their thirteenth blogging anniversary. Well done indeed! 👍 Also a nod of thanks to Calie and co over at T-Central for their continued work in bringing that big old blog list. Finding a post pointing back to this little old blog, well, it raised a smile and made me think of the good work that’s done over at T Central HQ. In other news, I ordered a dress last week. I think it’s my first purchase since lockdown began. I happened to be looking online and my dear wife, the Ever Lovely Mrs J, asked what I was up to. I have a thinking face and I […]

Little things that help

Hi, As I made breakfast I noticed that I seem to have caught the sun a little. I say a little. I’ve not been Goth White for a while, although tanned would certainly be pushing things. Perhaps the lunchtime doggo walks in the countryside have helped body and mind. Anyway, as I happened drop a teaspoon, I caught sight of my toes. They don’t usually see much sunlight, them being less that very pale was unusual. My next thought that popped into my head was a bright pink varnish would look ace. The thing with being a bit in the middle over gender, is this feels completely okay to me. Despite the fact that I’m very much in bloke mode, […]

A privilege to listen

Hi, There are times when it comes to writing a blog post that I need to walk away and do something else. Not for any drama, but because whatever is floating around in my noggin, needs a little time to settle. Earlier in the week, I happened to be assisting in an online event about the long shadow of racism in large institutions. Being behind the scenes, I had to stay quiet (a challenge, I know 😉), but in doing so, I was able to focus and listen to the speakers. They were are women from BAME (Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic) backgrounds. By the end of the afternoon, I felt that I’d witnessed a discussion to hear the stories […]

The day that was

Hi, It was Father’s Day last weekend and of the various labels attached to me: Dad is one I wear comfortably. Perhaps not easily as being a parent isn’t always an easy task. Rewarding? Oh hey much so, but like anything in life that’s worth it, oh baby you gotta work 😁 I’m not complaining, I love our two dearly and setting them grow and change is, well, a pleasure. Being someone betwixt the poles of gender and an outlier in bloke culture, I’ve never really been sure on where I might fall as an influence. I guess being the way I am – even if I keep some of it secret – I hope that being nonjudgmental and supportive […]

Barriers

Hi, How to start this one? At the weekend the rumour mill started to rumble about the possibility that our current government may seek to protect women by ensuring men do not enter ladies’ toilets. Just what the government will do about the assaults, improper contact, and domestic abuse women are subject to outside of the toilet facilities, they remained oddly silent. So, what does a part time trans person like myself do when they feel the call of nature? Ideally, find a gender neutral toilet. You know, just like the one we have in our homes. If the facilities are general use then I feel I’m unlikely to cause anyone distress. I know, thinking of others right? I must […]

Voting with your purse

Hi, In the village not far from us, there’s a choice of two shops. The Co-op and not the Co-op. I’m not going to give the latter some free advertising and this post is about that. I don’t usually buy from the other shop, but the Co-Op didn’t have what I needed. As I stood in the socially distanced queue, I noticed some rainbow flags draped around the tills. Proudly supporting LGBTQ+ they proclaimed. Ah, how awesome. Funny. They seemed also to be stocking three red top ‘newspapers’ who have a very poor track record on LGBTQ+ matters. Hmm. That took the shine off a bit. When I got to the singular cashier, we did the usual How Are Yous, […]
