A mixed bag

Hi, How’s things? Hopefully good. Heed the spoons I feel I ran out of spoons this week. Not in the literal sense, I should add. If that had been the case, as official Loader & Unloader of the Device Known as the Washer of Dishes*, it would’ve been my fault. Perhaps like all official or ceremonial titles, the truth of it is the work is not done by one person alone 🙂 So, spoons as in this and there was no major crisis or deep, unsettling cause. More a case of whatever and whenever they’d been used up; well, no spoons means it’s a nonstarter. To jump metaphors: sitting in the car, the fuel guage is low, and you’re not […]

Hi, I moved to Nottingham around thirty years ago. It’s a beautifully vibrant city that’s filled with people from different backgrounds, ages, cultures, genders, and sexualities. With two large universities, new folk arrive to keep us old hands on our toes. It’s not quite proper North, but it ain’t Southern in outlook either. It’s a true melting pot both as a city and as a county. We have one of the most affluent boroughs in the UK (Rushcliffe) and some of the poorest (Mansfield district). Economic history has not always been kind to good folk of Nottingham. But, we soldier on…. and usually with a wry smile and a knowing look. So it is that the news of people being […]

Find a way

Hi, Like technology and government funding, the hot weather has only just reached the East Midlands. 🤪 Okay, that’s enough about politics and the weather. How’s things with you, dear reader? Crackers With the rise in pollen my body has been kind to me by going into immune system high alert. I mean, nevermind the lurking remains COVID19, summer colds, and pollution: look out for grass & flower dust! The nefarious menace that runs rampant in our countryside, parks, and gardens! Be gone microscopic terror! Back to the petals and plants that spawned you! -ahem- To that end, I retried some over the counter hay fever relief tablets… and I won’t be taking that brand again. Last summer when I […]

Represent

Hi, With it being half-term and near the end of the Ever Lovely Mrs J’s annual leave ‘use by’ date, we’ve had some time off together. With health issues – physical and mental – plus extra family requirements, holidays – in terms of going away – have reduced. In honesty, I don’t mind this as I’m able to disengage reasonably well. Okay, provided I can distract my brain from its firework show attention span, at least 🙂 Certain political processes beginning with B and the cost of living situation, means that we’re less likely to travel outside of the UK. Given this would probably be a flight, I wonder if staying put it helping out collective carbon footprint? 🤔 Introspection […]

A sense of okayness

Hello dear reader. How are you? Ah, a moment to try and calm the firework show of thoughts. Too try and get something down on the page. Deep breath, Lynn… 🧘‍♀️ Time Today, the Ever Lovely Mrs J and I took a day off to shorten the week. Mrs J’s holiday year runs differently to mine, as it seems to go with organisations. So, we’re enjoying another four day week and we’ve been out for a walk in the park and a spot of brunch. Sitting in the shade, enjoying a coffee, and taking time to watch the world go by. No need to rush between virtual meetings or have our eye on the clock. Truly a luxury in turning […]

Diverse

Hi, How’s things with you, dear reader? This week has been – unfortunately a full give days, but moving on! – moments of enlightening “oh, that makes sense now”. For anyone thinking, Ah, Lynn’s about to come out and finally transition. As the rather good film stated: “A good guess, but actually no.” 😁 Let’s rev back the clock and kick off with a tale of a three folk sat around the kitchen table. Today’s visualisation exercise will feature Child 2.0, the Ever Lovely Mrs J, and Yours Truly in Bloke Mode. As Child 2.0 is reaching their middle point of teenage years, so conversation broadens and crosses into culture, people, etc. In a passing comment about neurodiversity in schools […]
