Finally

Hi, I don’t know about you, but in the raging heat of the European heatwave, the Muppet Show of UK politics, and the reveal of how much profit oil companies make in a day; there was only one question on my mind. What if the bloke in the loo next to me, used to be a woman? I mean, he might be butcher and more manly for a start! 😁 Talk about getting your priorities in a mix. 😋 So snarkiness aside, I’m very glad to report I’m not ill, knackered, or in a state. I have been waiting to write that for too long. It was about midweek that whatever had been weighing on me, drifted away. Perhaps, and […]

Don’t panic, Jones

Hi, Ah, the slowly blinking cursor and white screen of a yet to be filled blog post. Time to engage Stream of Barely Consciousness, Lynn. 🙂 Personal I am…. frustrated with myself and my health this past week. It seems I am not fully out of the shadow of dear old, Uncle COVID. Yes, I’ve been testing negative and the cough is mostly gone. Yet, I find my brain – make your own jokes here 🙂- is not with it. On listening to others who’ve been there before, it seems it’s a good month before the mind fog clears. Well, bugger. This is unhelpful because a key part of who I am is creating and organising stuff. With the high […]

Hands. Space. Farce.

Hi, I’ve had just over a week off, having taken some leave with the Ever Lovely Mrs J prior to last weekend. The first two days were very good: a friend’s wedding with good company, and no dysphoria either. Then, we found out Mrs J had COVID19. Ah, bugger. Still, we had a good run of not catching it and said virus wasn’t from the wedding, but from Wee Man, bless him. I think Mrs J was the first to succumb to the viral payload’s charms, and never one to be left out, I followed about a day later. The good news, is we’ve not passed it about at the wedding. I have, however, breathed on the door handles for […]

The need for Pride

Hi, This year sees the fiftieth anniversary of Pride in the UK. I’ve listened and read to the interviews of those who were there. Bless them, what an amazingly brave thing to do back in the 70s as well. 🏳️‍🌈 Hearing from people who managed to gather their courage and go to a Pride event or gay venue for the first time, that was really moving. I also, felt a touch of guilt around Pride. What I mean is, I don’t go to the one in the city and represent Chameleons. I help run the group, I run outreach Q&A sessions, I help organisations update their policies, I try to help parents who email the group, blah de blah blah, […]

#NotSafeToBeMe

Hi, I’ve been trans since I was a child in the 80s. I learned early on, that little boys shouldn’t be sensitive or, kind; but should play rough, not care for their appearance or for the feelings of others. Anything ‘weak’, feminine, or ‘other’ was to be mocked or punished. It seemed the worst thing you could be was girly, or, heaven forfend, gay. You learn to hide who you are, never being who you need to be. When you swim through that toxicity, it gets in your eyes, your ears, your throat. It’s hard not to swallow some of it, those burning lies. If you can’t keep your head above, you might go under, and for a time, it […]

Toxic

Hi, I’ve got a lot running around in my head at the moment. Thoughts jump in and out of focus, so I’m doing what I usually do in this situation: just write…. Or more accurately, when I can’t grab what I need to say, I tailspin into going off topic and I delete things. 🙄 I think this is attempt number four… The bad I… I don’t want to write about the bad things: the loss of womens’ rights in the US; the UK MP’s private letter sent to schools in South Yorkshire about a ‘push back’ to trans teens; and the creeping of fascism of our politics, etc. I am aghast that I’m writing that last line without irony, […]
