Ghosts of the past

Hi, There are times when it feels a strange thing to be a blogger. To be someone who writes and shares what they do and who they are. Occasionally, these can be very personal moments. There is something that nags at me, like a stone in a shoe or a rough nail on cloth. It’s a… if I can be honest here, I sometimes worry that this is all vainglorious nonsense, an edifice to ego, and perhaps, pointless. But then, isn’t a lot of such ilk easily dismissed by reductionist thought? Why see a film if it’s ultimately a series of flashing lights and noises. Why go out for a walk when you’ll only come back to your home. Well, […]

You opened the box…

Hi, A few weeks back, we had a family holiday (although Wee Man has moved out, bless him, to his student digs). The time away helped me get away from the usual routine and switch off from a few worries. The slower pace meant that I had more time to write, as much as blogging is writing, I guess. Conversely, this week has been a bit more full on, so come Friday night, I’m flagging a bit creatively. If you can call What Lynn Did Next, creating 🙂 I have not yet made time (or found time?) to create a map, but I’ve had a few ideas of locales and suitable doodles. Maybe the long weekend will assist in that. […]

Lessons Learned: Part XIII – Mindsets and Maps

Hi, Not so long ago, I was talking with a (trans) friend about their worries about their gender and where it might be taking them. As with any conversation about emotions and where are experiencing difficulties, often – or may it’s just me :-)- we use metaphors. Firstly, I need to say that any metaphor you use, is one that works for you. This doesn’t make it wrong if you use it and I don’t. Indeed, it may be that we need to respect a phrase or story someone uses, rather than dump our own interpretation on top. The risk, otherwise, is that we break the flow of the other person’s story or sharing, as we draw them into explaining. […]

Cause and effect

Hi, Before we dive in, a brief note of thanks to Christine who inspired Sue, who then inspired me to write this. BTW, if what I post turns out to be complete tosh, it’s absolutely not their fault. 🙂 I guess blogging can be a bit like home baking: you make the mess, you clear it up 😉 I had planned to start off with the phrase ‘of late’ or the word ‘recently’, but on reflection this one has a long shadow. In Sue’s post, Sue mentions an article by Pink News, in which they report on how a sports person’s career has changed following statements they made about trans people involved in swimming. Specifically, being dropped by sponsors and […]

Forgiveness

Hi, In the cosy, half awake period between the alarm and getting up, my mind drifted along. As often, two unconnected thoughts bumped into each other. The first was the news headline about people who are both Conservative Party members and LGBTQ+. Apparently some are feeling distinctly uneasy given recent statements by the current would-bes. I do wonder if they’d been asleep over the past decade as rhetoric had ramped up. 😋 (Then there’s this masterclass in allyship ❤️) As that thought floated by, an image of former and frequently cruel classmate followed. Someone who certainly wasn’t kind to a number of people in our class. They are both long dead and not someone I think about. I heard the […]

Lessons Learned: Part XII – Bothering

Hi, How often have you heard or said the phrase “Ah, why do we bother eh?“. I ask this not out of judgement, but from curiosity. That and to lead into this chapter of Lessons Learned. 🙂 As a genderfluid person, I spend most of my life in bloke mode. What helps keep me okay, is enough time to express all of who I am. To anyone who thinks being genderfluid is just about dressing up, it’s not. My nature and needs do not switch off, I am always me, with whatever gubbins is going on in my head. The backchatter of “That’s nice… Ah, but not in Richard mode #SadFace”. Moreover I have to mask who I am or […]
