Gardens not roads

Hi, With the half term holiday a week behind me, it’s finally Friday night. There’s mutterings about the kids going back to school soon and I’ll guess we’ll see as things develop. One of the things I see a fair few times at work, is the metaphor of a road as change. Namely, a twisty turny journey through a clipart icon forest from car-at-the-start to the smiling sunshine at the end. I have an issue with this, particularly when it comes to change or improvement. 🙂 For me, a road suggests we complete the journey and reach our destination. So, everything is all sorted now, yeah? No need to do anything else, we can kick back and bask in the […]

Fuzzy

As the clock marches on and the weather warms, I feel us moving ever closer towards the close of long trouser weather. It’s a slightly tricky time, at least for me, in that I’m both enjoying the brighter sun, the bloom of nature, and then there’s the tinge of regret around the leg situation. I know that as late spring arrives, I must stop all leg maintenance and – if you will – re-fur for the summer. It’s been a good run from September to March, so it’s good to look at what I’ve had, rather than look at the return. It’s a slightly odd situation in that in the autumn months I’m thinking i hope these stay smooth for […]

A look back – February

Hi, How’s the week been for you? Hopefully things have gone well given all that’s going on. Listening to a few friends – trans and otherwise – it seems winter has been a bit of a slog. The continued lockdown, the cold, and the drudge back into work. On the upside, it’s been half term for us at Chez Jones, so I’m very grateful for the week off. Oddly, in still sat in the living room, going on pretty much the same dog walks, and buying lunch from the Co-op. 😁 But, I’m not at work, so I’m free to have a later start to the day. Plus, the Ever Lovely Mrs J and I are free to have longer […]

Quid pro quo, Doctor

Hi, A long time ago, in a cineplex, not so far away, I – a late teen – sat in the audience watching Silence of the Lambs. Thrilled and occasionally horrified, it’s quite a ride as a film. For me, it’s the performances of the actors rather than any effects. Foster’s performance as Clarice: her wide eyed fear, her vulnerability, and also strength in, quite frankly, an insane situation. Likewise, Hopkins’s turn as Lecter: the quiet, cerebral menace, and then… well, the demonic glee towards the end. There’s a reboot coming to TV called Clarice and like older subject matter, through the lens of post MeToo, Black Lives Matter, and/or the transgender tipping point, things are more complex, or occasionally […]

Between one thing and another

Hi, It’s half term this week. For some reason, the counties around us run them at slightly different times. I don’t know if it’s to give kids’ clubs space to cope, or just longer for holiday parks to put their prices up for longer 😛 Although we won’t be traveling, I think we’re all ready at Chez Jones for a break from school and work. While the lack of a commute and the school run means we can all get up a little later, I think we’ll enjoy mixing up the routine to cook, walk the dogs, and maybe watch a film in the afternoon. With the lack of travel, it’s easier to keep my pins smooth, although I find […]

Hounds

In another month or so, I’ll be coming up to nearly a year of working from home. Perhaps I’ll put a candle on a small cake, make a wish that COVID19 will do one and that I’ll be able to carry on from home. I appreciate that for long term homeworkers, I’m very much a newbie. But, hey, we’re all n00bs at some point. 👍 I’ve blogged before on how well this setup suits me. No time wasted on commuting or walking between meetings, only to find there’s little that couldn’t have been done remotely and that’s there’s less time to do the tasks that need doing. Other than those happy benefits, and that I’m quite a home body, one […]
