Hi, There are times when it comes to writing a blog post that I need to walk away and do something else. Not for any drama, but because whatever is floating around in my noggin, needs a little time to settle. Earlier in the week, I happened to be assisting in an online event about the long shadow of racism in large institutions. Being behind the scenes, I had to stay quiet (a challenge, I know 😉), but in doing so, I was able to focus and listen to the speakers. Hi, It was Father’s Day last weekend and of the various labels attached to me: Dad is one I wear comfortably. Perhaps not easily as being a parent isn’t always an easy task. Rewarding? Oh hey much so, but like anything in life that’s worth it, oh baby you gotta work 😁 I’m not complaining, I love our two dearly and setting them grow and change is, well, a pleasure. Hi, Shall we do the thing we do when the odds seem stacked against us? No, not go the pub and wait for it all to blow over, but top film nerd points if you went there. 😁 Instead, a wander through the nostalgic halls of outfits of yesteryear. Hi, How to start this one? At the weekend the rumour mill started to rumble about the possibility that our current government may seek to protect women by ensuring men do not enter ladies’ toilets. Just what the government will do about the assaults, improper contact, and domestic abuse women are subject to outside of the toilet facilities, they remained oddly silent. So, what does a part time trans person like myself do when they feel the call of nature? Ideally, find a gender neutral toilet. You know, just like the one we have in our homes. Hi, In the village not far from us, there’s a choice of two shops. The Co-op and not the Co-op. I’m not going to give the latter some free advertising and this post is about that. I don’t usually buy from the other shop, but the Co-Op didn’t have what I needed. As I stood in the socially distanced queue, I noticed some rainbow flags draped around the tills. Proudly supporting LGBTQ+ they proclaimed. Ah, how awesome. Funny. They seemed also to be stocking three red top ‘newspapers’ who have a very poor track record on LGBTQ+ matters. Hmm. Hi, Long time readers will know I’m not on Twitter, Facebook, etc, although I do pop up on Reddit from time to time. You may have seen the long term story around J K Rowling’s tweets and allegations around her support of gender critical views. I’m not going to go into that here. What I am going to mention, is Daniel Radcliffe’s article over on the Trevor Project. Frankly, it is a beautifully written, positive, and supportive piece. Its eloquence lies in what the much loved Harry Potter stories mean to young fans, some of which may be somewhere along the Trans spectrum, and how such a discussion around the author’s views may be affecting their love of the stories.
