“I have a really bad feeling about this.”

Hi, This week has been somewhat of a strange journey. The Good, the Bad, the Average and Unique, as a favourite band of mine once sang. Let’s start with the good stuff and end of a high, eh? The Good… I was so glad to see the rain today. Down it came, in sheets and torrents, spilling through flooded gutters and pooling in patterned puddles, that danced under the droplets. And yes, down came the temperature and the cloying heat that had hung about Nottingham. Hot weather, nice for lazing around in, bad news for trans folk and folk at work. Outside for a change Thursday night was a night out to Chameleons and it was bordering on too warm. […]

He said. She Said.

Hello dear reader, Half-term is nearly over and the Jones Massive have, for once, not been away. Instead, we’ve stayed home and had days out to some local tourist attractions. Fun was had by all and we managed to dodge the iffy weather. Just before I went away, I was listening to a co-worker… well, rant. She was, and dare I say, rightly so, rather cross. For sake of her privacy, and mine, we’ll call her B. B was attending a meeting and it was one of those rather unpleasant ones, where the folk who’d turned up, already seemed to have decided what was going to happen. You probably know the sort, where folk start to draw into a single […]

Breaking the rules

Hi, This week has gone rather quickly, given the bank holiday and then a day off, with the Ever Lovely Mrs J. Yes, we took a day off together, and nipped into town for a fancy lunch and Mrs J’s hair appointment. Wee Man and Little Miss were busy at school, so it wasn’t like our usual trips out. Sometimes, I guess you’ve got to push the boat out a little. 🙂 Out One of the new ladies emailed Chameleons asking for some tips about day time shopping. She was having a day out with her wife, but wondered if we had any suggestions. Here’s a few from that email: Crowds are your friend. Should anyone clock you, you’ve already […]

All Jack and no Jill

Hi, It’s another long weekend and that’s put an extra spring in my step. A very welcome addition to the happiness after last night’s visit to Chameleons. It had been a little too long. I had felt that all too familiar ‘drop’ – more on that later, and unreasonable bouts of occasional snappiness. The latter isn’t acceptable and I felt bad afterwards. All Jack and no Jill, does not a happy camper make. No, ‘The Drop’ as I’ve started to call it, starts with the ticking of the proverbial clock. The realisation that it’s been too long, since you got to express all of you. There is, the feeling of a pull, or a catch. Like a string or thread, […]

The Inspectors

Hi, This week saw the Thursday as Transgender Day of Visibility. I won’t explain the event, given the clue is in the title. Older readers may wish to recount the well loved mantra: it does exactly what it says on the tin.  For the rest of you, your weekend homework can be to investigate the source of that well loved UK phrase. Or not. There’s no prizes Oh, okay, you can have a gold star, but due to government cuts, you’ll have to buy it yourself. Oh, and mark your own homework too. 😉 Just what is it about Thursday and trans-ness? Is it because it’s midway in the spectrum of days (Macho Monday vs Soft Sunday?) or because it […]

The past is another country

Hi, Three minutes to midnight as I start writing this. One more, and there’s an option of a knowing nod to an old Iron Maiden record. Larks, that dates me. Not the Iron Maiden reference, but I’ve just used the word ‘record’. That, or I’m some too-cool-for-school ageing metal hipster, with a love of record decks…. 🙂 I should point out I’m not. Even back in the 80s, I preferred tape or CDs. Records, well, despite the large album sleeves, which would, on occasion, have brilliant artwork on them, were not for me. Not portable enough and seemingly, too fragile to make the swap between friends. Tapes on the other hand, you could make your own mix and swap tracks […]
