Hi, I moved to Nottingham around thirty years ago. It’s a beautifully vibrant city that’s filled with people from different backgrounds, ages, cultures, genders, and sexualities. With two large universities, new folk arrive to keep us old hands on our toes. It’s not quite proper North, but it ain’t Southern in outlook either. It’s a true melting pot both as a city and as a county. We have one of the most affluent boroughs in the UK (Rushcliffe) and some of the poorest (Mansfield district). Economic history has not always been kind to good folk of Nottingham. But, we soldier on…. and usually with a wry smile and a knowing look. So it is that the news of people being […]

Represent

Hi, With it being half-term and near the end of the Ever Lovely Mrs J’s annual leave ‘use by’ date, we’ve had some time off together. With health issues – physical and mental – plus extra family requirements, holidays – in terms of going away – have reduced. In honesty, I don’t mind this as I’m able to disengage reasonably well. Okay, provided I can distract my brain from its firework show attention span, at least 🙂 Certain political processes beginning with B and the cost of living situation, means that we’re less likely to travel outside of the UK. Given this would probably be a flight, I wonder if staying put it helping out collective carbon footprint? 🤔 Introspection […]

A sense of okayness

Hello dear reader. How are you? Ah, a moment to try and calm the firework show of thoughts. Too try and get something down on the page. Deep breath, Lynn… 🧘‍♀️ Time Today, the Ever Lovely Mrs J and I took a day off to shorten the week. Mrs J’s holiday year runs differently to mine, as it seems to go with organisations. So, we’re enjoying another four day week and we’ve been out for a walk in the park and a spot of brunch. Sitting in the shade, enjoying a coffee, and taking time to watch the world go by. No need to rush between virtual meetings or have our eye on the clock. Truly a luxury in turning […]

Bright green

Hi, The right type of bright green – not the jade eyed monster – but the beautiful colours of Spring. It’s been great to be out in nature with the shorter weeks and longer weekends. Dare to dream of a four day week at some point? How awesome would that be? Perhaps the mix of warmer, sunnier climes, and less time spent bashing away at the keyboard, have helped me stay refreshed. I probably shouldn’t tempt the Fates around the lack of visits from the Dysphoria Goblin, but – touch wood – it’s been a while since the last visit… and I am enjoying the mental peace that that brings. Technology & apologies Moving on from goblins to gremlins, YATGB […]

Reflect well

Hi, How’s things with you, dear reader? Hopefully okay and if not, hopefully moving that way. As an unprofessional waffler – you think I’m paid for this guff? 🙂 – I keep a list of ideas should the creative waters run dry. No, not a climate change reference but a case of knowing – and sadly having experienced – having nil in the tank when it comes to a weekly post. Tiredness is the enemy. Odd given my superpower is napping and to prove it, my proverbial Kryptonite are ticking clocks. They’re just so… regular… with their accursed ticking! 😁 Where was I? Yes, creativity, tiredness, and a stash of ideas. So it is that this week I’m drawing on […]

Fabulocity

Hi, Ah, the luxury of a Friday off and nothing to rush around for. Instead, the simple joy of a long walk in the countryside, a coffee with the Ever Lovely Mrs J, and the beauty of a cool Spring day. Truly, the gifts of time and a chance to unwind. I had a call with a friend last night (hello Andie! 👋) and I was saying that I’d take cross with myself over the faffing around in getting ready. Again, we’re back to that phrase of “would you say that to a friend?“. Perhaps if you had a train to catch, but glib comments aside, no. So, again, perhaps useful to not say it to myself either. As with […]
