The walk, not the line

Hi, How’s your week going? Nearly Friday. Chin up, chuck 🙂 The other day I was sat having my lunch. Two sarnies, some hummus with celery, and a cold drink. The sun was warm and Hound 1 was sat next to me in the sofa, hoping I’d slip him a bit of sarnie. I didn’t, as bread doesn’t agree with him. I started to think of the things I needed to do in the afternoon and maybe I could look for some new headphones while I ate…. But, I stopped and did none of those things. Why rush lunch? Why snaffle my lunch when I had no meetings until 2pm? Why did I feel the need to be looking for […]

A little window into other worlds

Hi, Friday night already. That’s just how we roll at YATGB. Well, except for the occasional midweek meanderings. 🙂 Given the shift to online working, most of my day involves taking with other folk over various software packages. In most of them, people have their work photo as a mini avatar. It’s that I see as the call starts and then their real picture appears. I’m finding both interest and polite enjoyment at the difference in people’s work photos with how they look now. The shift to less corporate clothes, those who bother with the warpaint, those that don’t, those who’ve grown amazing beards, those who’ve coloured their hair funky colours, and those who’ve hardly changed at all. It’s a […]

Strange peace

Hi folks, Hope you are all keeping well and sane given the lockdown situation. The last handful of weeks have been rather pleasant, if I’m honest. No commute, the shift of all meetings to online, more time with my family, dog walks at lunchtime in the countryside, and frankly, a lot less stress. Yes, I am working longer hours, but given the location and balance of home/work, I don’t mind. Perhaps due to the above, and as I was saying to the Ever Lovely Mrs J, I am okay with not going out on Thursdays. That feels really strange to write that! Yes, I’m missing friends there, and the Skype/mobile calls help keep in touch. But, the actual dressing, it’s […]

The Long Game

Hi, The sun is shining, birds are singing in the trees, and there’s a distant sound of traffic. I’ve not driven to work in an age and I am not missing the queuing or the faff of finding a parking place. I am, dare I say?, really getting into this home working gig. The sightly later start, actually getting a lunch hour*, looking out into the garden, and having time with the Ever Lovely Mrs J is rather nice. I am so far coping with the lack of dressing, although I am missing meeting up with T friends at Chams. This week’s online meeting was a no show as others had a lot on. Still, maybe next week will be […]

Stories matter

Hi, So, how are things? Have you managed to avoid cabin fever as well as COVID19? 🙂 The sun is out, the birds are singing, and, NO! GET BACK INSIDE! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!! 🙂 Ahem… well, we’ll just have to do our best to stay sane eh? We may not have a bus service or a shop out here, but the Jones Crew have a number of rural routes for our daily stroll. I say our, but the kids seem happy to stay inside with WiFi, snacks, and remote gaming with their mates. You have to pick your battles 🙂 To be fair to them, they’ve done really well keeping up with school work, so with it being the […]
