Affirming

Hello Dear Reader, I’m going to warn you now that I’m stuck in procrastination mode, lost in thoughts of what I might write, while my brain plays ‘meh, delete’ on each idea. Ah, it’s going to be one of those episodes is it? Right oh. Well, let’s just keep a hammerin’ on the keys until something sticks eh? 😏 History This week saw 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. Of course the Jones folk didn’t do anything for it. We didn’t do any street party or putting the Union Jack up. I’m sure we’ll now be on a list at ‘Deform’ HQ – assuming they know which end of the pen to use 😏 Maybe […]

Hi, Not much to report this week. Perhaps that’s a good thing, given what’s going on in the world. I think it would drive you potty if you worried about all of it. I did have a chat with our local MP about the recent Supreme Court business. They did listen and the impression I got was that politics is not unlike a large business. We’ll skip over the comedy option of “the cat has left it’s business…” 🙂 What I mean is in – my limited experience – of large organisations, is there’s the Chain of Command. Some orgs are built to deliberately allow communications to flow quickly and there’s various reasons why they want that. Others, less so […]

Creatures of the Night

Hi, A short week this time around. I could get used to this! 🙂 Ah, but it were not for the requirement of filthy lucre to settle one’s bills and put food upon the table. Random thought: is it more environmentally and economically prudent to be a vampire? 😁 /S I mean, for a start you’re not contributing to intensive agriculture. Okay, you do have to have a nibble from time to time, but humans may donate willingly for a few bob. I guess you’d not need the heating on, being undead. That and your travel bills would be less. Sure, it takes a while to get anywhere as a bat, but the night views must be nice, right? Would […]

500 and rising

Sunday morning during the Easter weekend in Nottingham. Beautiful blue skies, a warm Spring sun, and a faint yet cooling breeze. My boots – vegan, women’s, M&S – whispered against the city streets as I made my way up through the manicured ruins of the new Broadmarsh park. No longer the slum of an early century, but maybe a tombstone of a once proud shopping centre. Across from the carefully laid rocks and water courses, loose tarps from the building’s skeleton flapped in the wind. Ghosts of visits passed drifted into my head. Christmas in the old Co-op restaurant, Games Workshop with a friend, buying knee boots in the 90s…. Up, up, and across Market Square to Speakers Corner: a […]

Fight against failure

Hi, Well, I think we can agree that the recent judicial review has, to use some classic British understatement, not gone well. For want of a better metaphor, I am juggling a number of hats… As one of the organisers for Chameleons, I am trying to keep my cool and calm the understandable concerns – nay, fear – of our community. There’s a number of friends who have transitioned – or who are. We’re now faced with the greater risk of bigots – yes, I’m saying that – yelling about “people in the wrong place”, be that the loo, changing room, etc. What a horrible world! As parent to a trans teen, I am deeply upset on the ignorance shown […]

Joy, sparked

Hi, So, how are things? 🙂The Jones Crew are currently on staycation, although – bless her – the Ever Lovely Mrs J has had to pop into work. This leaves Child 2.0 sleeping in, as all late teens do and should, IMO. Meanwhile, Muggins here is mushing the keyboard and streaming consciousness in an effort to get going….. and breathe; and relax. 😉 With the luck of UK bank holidays, my non-working days, and the Easter school break, we’re having some time off as a family. I think Child 2.0 certainly needed it, as the full term has worn them down. Not because they’re slacking, but quite the opposite; they work so hard. They also passed (well, stormed) their Driving […]
