Hi,
With it being half-term – and a lovely two weeks at that – both myself and the Ever Lovely Mrs J, have had a few days off with Child 2.0. Not that they need a lot of entertaining, given they are midway into their teenage years. Just keep the fridge stocked, the WiFi at high capacity, and operate the Parental Taxi Service as required. 🙂 Hopefully they will pick us a nice home in our dotage 😁
Thursday was a bit touch and go, as I fell asleep on the sofa for about three hours. I guess I must have needed it. This did put me a little behind schedule on getting ready, but traffic had cleared from the rush hour.
We’re going to need some help
Earlier on, I’d decided to try my hand art another ‘wet n set’ routine. Given that just water and rollers meant the curl would drop out – and I’m not a fan of hairspray – I’d bought some mousse to try.
The application and rollers went okay, however the end result was not quite to my liking. Yeah, I’m a fussy mare 🙂
The curls had stayed, but they felt a bit too… well, clumpy? rather than the loose, bounce I’m used to from the hair iron. Not that they stay in long. Maybe I’m overreaching, given this is attempt number three and it’s not like I’ve got a lot of experience in this.
I guess I’m not doing something quite right, so I’ll quiz our friendly neighbourhood wig gurus in due course.
Plan B from Outer Town
While fortune may favour the brave, experience teaches the prepared 😉 I had, of course, packed my old wig. The bob cut with the highlights and one I really love. I guess we’re back to the Richmond Jones advice again 💜 Yes, synthetic fibres may not be as flexible in style as human hair ones, but they are easier to look after. Well, if you’re a hair style klutz like me.
‘Do replaced and the Moussed Monster of the Deep Closet banished to the Wig Box of Holding…. Sorry, these cod horror references are getting out of hand! 🤓
( Cod horror? That seems Lovecraftian itself… 🤦 )
After last time’s issue with my lippy and eyeliner moving around, I took my time and did not rush anything. That helped and by the end, dare I say, I felt “that’ll do, Pig” 🙂 I was aiming for goth glam – hence the darker eyes and more OTT lashes. I mean, it is nearly Halloween.
Evening
Due to ‘other stuff’ going on – quite probably related to half-term, work travel, and whatnot – it was a fairly quiet evening. We had two new folk visit and one of them I met downstairs due to their worry on visiting. We had a good chat together and when they felt ready, we joined the main meeting upstairs.
A few of us had bought Halloween treats, so we were not short of nibbles. Indeed, by the end of the night, the cookies, skeleton fingers, and a box of chocolates were unopened. The latter I offered back to the kind person who had brought them, but we decided to gift them to the Centre Manager, given their continued support and awesomeness.
Given the smaller numbers, conversation drifted into a group chat, and there was much laughter and a sense of togetherness. A few long jokes were shared and that ended the evening on a really fun note. After that, it was all over apart from the tidying up, photos, and goodbyes.
The outfit is a separate velvet skirt and a top from Joe Browns. The shoes I have for ages. I had fond memories when I put them on, thinking back to nights out at Invasion, dancing away with friends. However, I think the shoes need a bit of a stretch (or the padding of opaques) as they were ‘making themselves known’ towards the end of the night. Oh the vanity! 😁
Oh and ProTip: don’t bang your leg with the pointy bit of the car door before going out. I mean, yeah, it’s Halloween, but you’re not supposed to be sporting an actual bruise and cut. 😣
A note of thanks to Deb for helping with the photos and a get well soon wishes to Val 💜
Here’s a good weekend!

PS: Looks like I missed the blog anniversary on 22nd October. Crikey 2005 was a while ago!
Wee Man was just a toddler then and Child 2.0 wasn’t yet born. How time passes eh?

Lovely outfit, great hair. I struggle with wig styling – YouTube and other tutorials make it look easy (like that Blue Peter model with lots of sticky-back plastic that never quite worked out when you tried it!)
Congrats on the blogversary. According to Mr Google, there are 600 million blogs, but I’d say few are as active and have the following of YATGB. So well done, Mrs.

Ah, the gap between what the presenter has and your own works: quite familiar with that. Not to mention the hunt for the right shaped plastic bottle or cardboard box.
Yes, very much with you on not quite being able to style hair. Maybe, like make-up and clothes, it’s a practice thing? I think I’m still at the awkward stumblings of the newly released would-be fashion conscious teen…. despite by significant age gap 😁
Thanks for the kind words about the outfit and the blog as well. I’m not great at numbers, but I think it’s now eighteen years since I started it. Just a case of one post after another, and all that. Sometimes I wonder when it’ll be time to stop, but until then, let’s not worry about such things.
