From red to black

Hi, There’s an article on the BBC’s website on their long read section titled How Skiving Made Me a Better Parent. Sure, it starts off with that story, but it goes into other personal stories from parents, singletons, and working folk. The opening line about self-care is something I think we Trans folk need to keep an eye on. It is, as the article suggests for other people, somewhat of a juggling act. I don’t think it’s an either/or situation when it comes to self-care, but – and like much in life – more a scale or continuum. I think it can help to look at your needs as mostly being met rather than yes/no. The black and white thinking […]

Pale and interesting

Hi,  With the nights drawing in and Halloween now behind us, I’ve started to think about Christmas. I’ve been planning lists for my family and also thinking about the Chams Xmas Do. Mind you, we have a Bring & Buy lined up and a visit from our friendly, neighbourhood wig experts, TrendCo, before the party. I have possibly three outfits I could wear again: red bodycon dress from the 90s, a black dress with lace top, or separates. The latter include a two tops and a sequin skirt. There’s also the option of going brighter and wearing the Desigual dress the Ever Lovely Mrs J bought me for a birthday many a moon ago. But…. I would like something new […]

A little respect

Hi,  The other day I was browsing Reddit and I happened to hit on a re captioned 60s comic image, or as the cool kids are saying these days: a meme. 😉 The image to your right isn’t it, but one I’ve tweaked as it feels a bit more trans positive. The other was one of those dramatic head-in-your-hands poses… oh, and 50 underwear which I felt might tip us towards the racy side of things and that’s not where I’m headed with this. Like a lot of things in life there’s a certain level of randomness – or synchronicity – about blogging. So it was that an article floated by about certain political parties trying to ‘protect children’ from […]

When you can’t think of a decent title

Hi,  There are times when I sit down to write Friday’s blog post and I just can’t seem to get it started. It as if there is too much going on in my head: a whirlwind of images, thoughts, and emotions. Not from a creativity point of view, moreover, too much going on. The way through it, at least for me, is to take a deep breath, pause, and then start to write. Maybe I’m just trying to make sense of the week. Last night we had our Halloween meeting for Chameleons. A few folks where a bit more gothic than usual and as a general rule, we don’t really do a fancy dress evening. When we have, it’s been […]

Big Girl Pants

Hi, Many moons ago I was listening to a work colleague talk about some work she’d struggled with. C recounted how she’d had a touch of Imposter Syndrome (we may come back to that another time) and I asked her how she’d got by it. “Oh, I just put my big girl pants on and got it sorted,” she quipped. So that’s how I was introduced to the phrase. So it was that in a meeting this morning – a meeting, I should add dear reader, that I was not looking forward to, for the concern (fear?) that it would be more conflict than collaboration. But, thinking back to the old mindfulness hack of what is it I can see […]

Review – Tights

Hi, A few weeks ago the Ever Lovely Mrs J mentioned a firm to me called Snag Tights. They are very much not a ‘one size fits all’ company. Instead, they offer a variety of sizes for the long, the short, and the tall – as someone once sang. Intrigued, I thought I’d have a look at their site, and maybe invest. Now, official disclaimer time: I don’t work for the company and I’m not getting any freebies for posting this review. My aim here is for you lovely readers to avoid wasting your pennies on badly fitting tights. We’ve been there, right? Too tight, rough, long in the wrong places, short in others. Sometimes you carefully slip them on […]
