Creatures of the Night

Hi, A short week this time around. I could get used to this! 🙂 Ah, but it were not for the requirement of filthy lucre to settle one’s bills and put food upon the table. Random thought: is it more environmentally and economically prudent to be a vampire? 😁 /S I mean, for a start you’re not contributing to intensive agriculture. Okay, you do have to have a nibble from time to time, but humans may donate willingly for a few bob. I guess you’d not need the heating on, being undead. That and your travel bills would be less. Sure, it takes a while to get anywhere as a bat, but the night views must be nice, right? Would […]

500 and rising

Sunday morning during the Easter weekend in Nottingham. Beautiful blue skies, a warm Spring sun, and a faint yet cooling breeze. My boots – vegan, women’s, M&S – whispered against the city streets as I made my way up through the manicured ruins of the new Broadmarsh park. No longer the slum of an early century, but maybe a tombstone of a once proud shopping centre. Across from the carefully laid rocks and water courses, loose tarps from the building’s skeleton flapped in the wind. Ghosts of visits passed drifted into my head. Christmas in the old Co-op restaurant, Games Workshop with a friend, buying knee boots in the 90s…. Up, up, and across Market Square to Speakers Corner: a […]

Dates and times

Hello dear reader, How’s things? I had toyed with the idea of making each sentence shorter, due to the new tariffs. However, A) that would remind us of the news, and I’m of the mind that we come here to get away from the nonsense. Also, and perhaps as important, B) this would require some skill in maths, which I do not have 😉 Easter Due to commitments on behalf of the Ever Lovely Mrs J, we won’t be heading off away this Easter. We will, however, be enjoying a staycation of a few days. I am absolutely hoping for some pleasant walks in the spring sunshine, hearing the birds in the trees, and seeing the bloom of nature as […]

Painless

Hi, Ah, the luxury of a short week and a series of fortunate events. All that and it’s Friday night. The last few days have been as per the blog title. Well, okay, the arm epilation stung a little, but all for a noble cause! 🙂 Reader, I did have to grit my teeth on trying to remove my underarm hair. I think I see why some folk wax or shave. Still, you gotta try things once in a while! But emotionally speaking it’s been very positive. No distant howls of the black dog approaching (I’m hoping they’ve found a comfy sofa to sleep on) nor has the Anxiety Goblin returned from their holiday. Maybe they are both resting happily […]

Flurrying

Hi, A day late, tut tut eh? 🙂 It’s been a full week; both in terms of working Monday to Friday, plus it’s been busy at home and otherwise. With Friday zipping by and most of the evening given over to Child 2.0’s activity out, his driving experience, and a late tea for both of us; I was tired. Mind you, I was tired at 5 PM, so another four hours on the go just topped me up nicely to TGIF night 🙂 I am, however, observing rather than complaining. Okay, maybe a bit on the tiredness 😉 It’s great to spend time with Child 2.0 as I know he’ll be looking to go to university in about 18 months […]

Double trouble

Hi, I think this might be the most unusual place I’ve started a post: sat in the car wash. Luckily, I’m inside the car, as I don’t need a jet wash or hot wax. 🙂 Besides, my waxing appointment was earlier in the week. I feel I’ve shaken off some of the winter funk, and that brings a welcome sense of being brighter in myself. Does that make sense? What a joy to have that! Ah, the luxury to having your body closer to how you’d like it. Even if the body is wider and more rundown than it was a few decades ago. As long as the old gal keeps ticking, eh? 🤭 Perhaps another title for this week’s […]
