#32: Enjoy the Little Things
I’ll let the geek massive have a grin at that reference 🤓 However, film quotes aside, I feel there’s some truth in it.
Today we had a fright slight dusting of snow in the wee hours. This meant we – and the hounds – needed to be suitably wrapped up against the chill.
Cue leggings and opaques under jeans for warmth (yeah, right 😉) and my new Popsy boots. They’re just -ahem- genderfluid enough to be his & hers…. plus, a good tread and they are the right side of cosy.
I may be in my middling years, but I do love to be out in the brightness of a winter morning 🩷
There’s that slight nip in the nostrils from the cold air. The warmth of the sun and the stillness the world takes on. All that and the crunching steps or crump-crump-crump of you’re on deeper snow.
A beautiful blue sky was overhead and as the Ever Lovely Mrs J and I stopped for a warm drink, I remembered we still had the full weekend ahead of us. That, and we had nowhere we needed to rush to.
A gift of a morning and a good walk.

A bit less scenic down here. No snow as yet, but a treacherous scattering of ice on the pavements, and cold enough that it persists in places through the day. Definitely a day to dig out the grippy boots for a midmorning trip to the village.
Grippy boots and a careful pace, yes. That and maybe moving a phone and/or keys out of your pockets.
A very good way to spend a morning. And I hope you have a nice calm weekend ahead.
I like the Popsy Boots. Thy tick the genderfluid box, with a nice shimmer, too. And if they’re warm and grippy as well then top marks. Genderfluid is my kind of choice of outdoor footwear these days. I get compliments!
I assume dogs still retain their wolf ancestors’ ability to pound the snowy trails without getting cold feet. Or have they had such qualities bred out of them?

It’s been a touch brisk, temperature wise, but layering up – and hot drinks! – all help. That and getting cosy under a fluffy blanket with a heated pad underneath you. Ah, hygge FTW
Thanks for the kind words about the boots. I did wonder if they might be a bit too sparkly, or the chunky heel, be too much in bloke mode; but Mrs J assures me otherwise, bless her.
As to doggo paws, I would guess it depends on the canine (breed) and the individual. Cold weather & working dogs seem to love the cold weather. Apparently huskies love being out in the snow. Conversely, greyhounds have no undercoat in their fur, so they need to be wrapped up in winter coats – and that’s indoors & outdoors.
Yes, of course, huskies. I forgot about them. The first shop in the parade here has a sort of husky/samoyed thing, uniquely beautiful with the fluffiest white coat ever, always flopped out outside the shop door. I think these parts may be too warm for that dog, though!
Maybe you and Mrs J could hire a sled with a husky team and be pulled along the snowy streets and lanes round about in style. That’ll impress the neighbours: “Eeyoop. Intitt koad. Look at yon grand folks, the Joneses, out wi’ their dogs ‘n’ trap. Jammy sods!”
