Good luck getting a pace on

I was going to comment about the the most foul stench that blew in to the country this week, but I dare say, you’re probably as tired of the weather reports as I am. Shall we just move on to nice news? 🙂

Jobs, yo

Still working on the job applications at the mo, although Wee Man – the cheeky wee chap – has started to hassle me. This is because he’s landed himself a job, and now feels he can hassle his old man about it! 😁 Well, you’ve got to take the opportunity when you can eh? This is his first gig, and I’m really proud of him for stepping up and putting his Big Boy Pants on.

I remember my first job – no, not ensuring the mammoths were fed & watered 😉 – and I found it really intimidating. I guess that’s how work experience helps folk, but that wasn’t really something you did back in the 80s. Or at least if you did, you were in a small room, running the photocopier; so not exactly in the thick of it, and learning about office life. Then again, exposing work folk to closeted trans youth who are neurodiverse, it’s a bit unkind to the employees 😉

Celebrations

It’s been another year since YATGB moved platforms. The hosting company got in touch to say that they’ve planted more trees. Apparently this is a thing they do and the longer you stay with them, the more they put in. Sure, it’s a little thing, but I guess it all helps.

TBH, it probably helps more than my throwing of conkers into the hedgerows, whilst on a doggo walk. Still, maybe a horse chestnut will get buried and sprout….. although I think it’s more likely the local mice enjoy the nibbles.

Out

While we’re on the subject of being out, I managed a morning out this week. Sadly not at a time I could meet up with Val, as this was quite the last minute thing. Still, better some time out, than nothing at all.

Unusually, I managed to be ready fairly quickly – for me at least – and I think I know that my main delay is. Well, other than waiting for the cement to mix & set 😉 It’s not getting my outfit ready beforehand!

This time, I had a fairly fixed idea of what I wanted. The only slow down was the top I had picked didn’t quite go with the skirt, so a quick swap to my new shirt, and I was good to go.

Once parked up, I had two things on my To Do list. One was to check out the lippy suggestion from Stace (thank you, mrs! ❤️), and the other was to see if I could find the bookshop in town.

Like all good plans, it rarely survives contact with the public, as I bumped into the MUA who’d helped me two weeks’ previous. Cue a lovely long chat about various things, and by the end of it, I knew that the bookshop walk into the middle of town was not going to happen. Not because I’d chatted the time away – okay, maybe a bit 😉 – but because you, okay I, can’t get a pace on in heeled boots.

Oof, I am out of practice in these old boots, despite the heel not being any higher than what I’m used to. Maybe it’s the narrowness of it? I think the other ‘office style’ shoes have a wider heel. Eh, lessons learned eh? 😉

Unlike Leicester’s shopping centre, Nottingham doesn’t have a handy large mirrored walkway on the way back to the car park. So, I had to make do with a sneaky selfie in John Lewis’ image consultant booth. No, I didn’t interrupt – the place was quiet, given it’s a weekday.

That reminds me, with a bit of luck a local business owner may be visiting Chams to impart her wisdom on wardrobe choices, style, and fashion. I do need to give her a call this Monday. A note of thanks to Val for suggesting the idea! 🙏

Lessons Learned ideas

Part of the conversation included that classic parental phrase: “what if it a phase?”. Ah, if I had a quid each time I’d heard that, I’d have retired long ago. 🙂 I wouldn’t say its bothers me – bothers as in gets me riled up, but I do think it’s not wholly accurate.

I am thinking – after this week’s earlier Lessons Learned article – that this might be a good topic to pick up next time around. Heck, it’s not like I’ve got owt else on the go. There’s only so many suitable jobs and often it’s a waiting game once you’ve applied.

Chams is later next week and Wigeroo are planning to visit. Who know – I might be lucky to find a new ‘do.
