Taking it steady

Hi, How’s things with you? Hopefully good. Household Child 2.0 broke up for the summer holidays today, so despite his collection of A Level homework, he is, at least, free of attending school for the next six weeks or so. This also means that I won’t be doing the morning & afternoon school run. I’ve blocked out those times (plus a small gap for traffic issues) in my work diary since Mrs J’s work & health needs changed. I mean, we’re very much an equal ops house, so child care & house work is just stuff we do. Dare I say, no different than most modern households. So with my current contract coming to an end and Child 2.0 on […]

Scene: The Cabal

A dimly lit space in a once posh looking restaurant. A fug of steam hangs in the air. There’s a strong and delicious scent of freshly baked bread.A circular table rests in the centre, while collection of mismatched chairs bump up against it. Voice 1: Good evening colleagues. Welcome to the quarterly meeting of the Cabal of Chaos. I am Operator X, standing in for Doctor Crash. He sends his best and is recovering from a bad cold. Oh, sorry! I nearly forgot. My preferred pronouns are he/him. Voice 2: Thank you, Operator and welcome to the Cabal. I am Entity 9. Yes, recently escaped from the Institute’s maximum security unit, CX4. Oh, and my preferred pronouns are they/them or […]

Later than you think

Hi, Today is a day off and the Ever Lovely Mrs J joined me, in enjoying the sunshine (“Gah, it burns, it burns, Precious!” 😁) and breakfast out with the doggos. It was an early start as Child 2.0 had a school trip down to Mos Eisley: where you’ll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy…. Sorry, sorry. A slip of the cut & paste button! 😉 I did, of course, mean a visit to the capital including a tour of the Palace of Westminster. For overseas readers, that’s the Houses of Parliament. This meant an earlier than usual school run, this time to Nottingham Train Station via the electro-dad-mobile. The latter is rather good in city […]

Some of the time in summer time

Hi, As they say round these parts, “Eee, it’s a bit wharm“. There we go, that’s the box ticked for the obligatory British weather comment. 😉 Readers in climates that are hotter than late 20s may wish to roll their eyes now 😏 However, that offer is null & void if you’re sat in the pool and/or somewhere with aircon. Quiet Thursday Given the heat and move into summer, Chams’ membership takes a wee dip. It’s pretty much par for the course with the warmth, holiday season, and the lighter nights put people off. FWIW, Child 2.0 has decided to skip their outdoor activity due to the weather, so I dare say it’s not just a Chams thing. Given the […]

Fugged

Hi, How’s things with you? Hopefully good, and if not, fingers crossed they improve soon as. Because my style of blog writing is absolutely seat of the pants – cynics & snarks might just say “nah, it’s just pants” 😉 – we’re going with what’s just landed in my addled ADD/ADHD brain: the good, the bad, and the wibble*. ( Yes, that is a Blackadder Goes Forth reference, and no, there will be no extra prizes for placing pencils in each nostril. Yes, I realise this a /S very modern reference 😉 Kids, you may need to ask your parents 😁 Gah, who am I kidding: like anyone under 30 is reading this! 👵). The Good The East Midlands no […]
