Household
Child 2.0 broke up for the summer holidays today, so despite his collection of A Level homework, he is, at least, free of attending school for the next six weeks or so. This also means that I won’t be doing the morning & afternoon school run.
I’ve blocked out those times (plus a small gap for traffic issues) in my work diary since Mrs J’s work & health needs changed. I mean, we’re very much an equal ops house, so child care & house work is just stuff we do. Dare I say, no different than most modern households.
So with my current contract coming to an end and Child 2.0 on summer break, I should – there’s that word again 🙃 – remove the times from my diary. But… it feels a touch too final. Does that make sense?
Pride
NottsPride is this Saturday and I’m hoping to make an appearance as Middle Class Dad with Sign, if I’m lucky. Apparently the march starts at noon to help give folk time to arrive and whatnot, so that should – fingers crossed! – fit in nicely with home stuff. You can but hope.
Chams
A quiet one this time around with summer holidays, bright nights, and childcare all making a slight dint in the numbers. To be honest, this is pretty much par for the course. Val and I have been helping organise the group for so long now, that we’ve got the sign-in sheets to know the rough pattern fairly well. We know that folk – old and new – will make it in autumn.
Autumn is also the time to start planning things. Val suggested we get a stylist in – not quite sure what she’s suggesting! 😉 But jokes aside, I think it’s more a case of hearing from someone who may give us all ideas around different styles, things to try, and stuff to avoid.
On that note, I have on my wish list some time with a make-up expert. I think I’ve managed to work out something for my undereye dark circles, but now my eyeliner is melting. I don’t know if that’s me, application, heat, or something else. Anyway, there’s always a chance to learn, so maybe a visit down to Syston – which Lotte mentioned – would be time well spent.
I had a slight shoe malfunction in that the sole came away on my wedge. I think it’s fixable, so I’ll pop in to Timpson’s and see what wonders they can work. Luckily – and of course – I had a spare pair, because I’m never 100% sure on what I’m going to wear.
Talking of which, as it’s a fortnight to my deWookiefication appointment, I’m at that slightly annoying period where your leg fluff is visible, yet I don’t want to razor it off, knowing the appointment is soon, and the finish will last longer. So, time to break out the maxi dress!
Said dress has been hung up since I bought it second hand a few months ago. Oddly, I’ve not felt in the mood for shopping. I am taking that as a good thing, in that I guess I am content with what I have.
Maybe with more time on my hands, I might go through my wardrobe and work out what I’m not wearing and unlikely to wear again. I did spot three vests – complete with thin straps – that are not really me. One came gratis with a pretty top, so while they may be a set, perhaps best to pass on, and let a charity shop gain a sale.
One slight issue is that Chams isn’t back on for another two weeks. So it falls due to the calendar, but with a week off for trips from home, I’m hoping this will be a good distraction. The Ever Lovely Mrs J has mentioned she and Child 2.0 may go to a production down in Stratford. If that’s the case, I’ll be dog sitting and maybe that’ll give me some time to top up the batteries. You can but hope!

It’s a nice dress and you look good in it. You are remarkably restrained to have bought something and not immediately wanted to try it on.

It’s a bit… dangerous/iffy, I find, if I just pop a new outfit on my brick like dad bod, as there are no curves in the right places.
However, I general know my size based on the brand, and often the quick try is for length and/or a tummy check.

I think you look good in the dress. The fingernail varnish matches the colour of the sandal strap but the toenail varnish is a cute feminine pink. I like that.

Thanks Sue. Yes, hoping Pride goes well and it stays dry – or at least, not too wet. I’ll take my rainbow brolly just in case. I hoping I might bump into a few folk if I’m lucky.
The plan is to have a few days out here and there. Mrs J and Child 2.0 have a list of things they want to do.
Thank you for the kind words about the dress. I think that’s the first maxi dress I’ve bought – talk about being behind the times! 🙂 It felt cool despite having more material, if that makes sense. The original look was with cork wedges that had golden straps, but they came unstuck, so a change was required. I’m afraid I do love a bit of nail varnish.
I hope Notts Pride went well and that you had a good time – in whatever mode you attended in! I wore a rainbow top yesterday in solidarity, even if I wasn’t physically present.
Always thought that maxi dresses looked cool (in both senses of the word) and your photo maintains that impression to me. Glad a good time was had at Chams too. One of these days I shall attend again, promise!

TBH, I’ve struggled a bit with maxi dresses, in that it’s taken a while for me to warm to them. Umm, no pun intended. I think it was a case of finding one I liked, despite seeing others on, uhh, other people that suited them. Would now recommend – particularly if bought ‘new to you’ 🙂 Oh, and thank you for the kind words.
As to Chams, I’ve still got your graphic novel to return 😬 If you could let me know if you’re likely to make a meeting, I’ll be sure to bring it along. Thank you for the loan!
That hesitation around removing blocked time. It’s such a small thing on paper, but emotionally? Yeah, it hits different. (ADHD doesn’t help.)
Also, I’ve been dealing with eyeliner meltdown lately too. I keep going back and forth on whether it’s technique or just summer humidity doing its thing (heat index was 110F/43C today!). Would definitely be curious what a makeup pro might say. Been experimenting with new types trying to combat.
And funny enough, I saw the update for my blogroll plugin earlier today. Hopefully both go smoothly.

The RSS upgrade went okay. Well, inasmuch that all feeds and plugins went over. I had issues with the feeds updating automatically. I am hoping the CRON jobs are settling down. Good luck with your update.
