Dress Size Roulette

Hi,

How’s things? Hopefully good for you.

I’m going to apologise in advance if today’s post jumps all over the place. My thoughts feel like a swarm of butterflies and words focus hard. 🙂

Deep breaths, Lynn….

To be unhurried

Due to carrying over some holiday leave and a need to use it up before the deadline, I found myself with an extra day off. This both shortens the week, extends the weekend, and gives me that feeling of a No Rush Weekday.

I’m not going to complain about the morning routine because I’ve no issues with it. I guess it’s like the difference between making yourself breakfast and having someone else do it for you. The former’s not a chore and the latter is quite the gift. But then, maybe I just like breakfast! 🐖

( Truth: unless a large mug of coffee counts, I don’t actually have it 🤫 )

So it is with not having to rush out and back to start the working day. Yes, it was still the school run today, but the psychological pressure – which no doubt I’m putting on myself 🙄 – wasn’t there.

Instead, there was time to peruse and pick up some supplies, to go with the flow of traffic, and generally be more mellow.

Raisins to be cheerful as autocorrect might say 😉

Pre Outing Prep

Thursday night was a Chams meeting. I know this because I double checked the calendar, the website, and – after last time’s slip-up 😬 – made sure that The Stars Are Right 🐙

( For you Cthutlu geeks out there, that reference is D6 SAN loss 🤓 )

With tea, snacks, and the Blu-ray player reconnected for Child 2.0, he was ready to dog sit. That meant the Ever Lovely Mrs J could rest upstairs if she needed to.

For those of you without hounds in your life, you may be wondering, but Lynn, won’t the doggos just lie near you and nod off? Perhaps some do, but our lot seem to prefer to lay on you 🙂 As much as hound snuggles are what happy homes are made of, sometimes, you need a bit of space. Particularly if they are in the mood to roll around or swap places because…. well, who knows? Some type of unknown version of Twister for dogs? 🙂

Recharge

In honesty, by mid-afternoon on Thursday, I wasn’t feeling it. The car charger had been playing up, I’d had a packed week, and I was tired to boot.

( Interjection: With the charger, I went back to IT basics: turn it off and back on. Hey presto, it’s working at the mo. Sssh! Don’t tell non-IT folk or the gig is up 😉).

But… riffing on the old wisdom of ‘give peas a chance’ – a family slip of language or hearing – why not give it a go? Try it, you might like it.

Unusually for me, I seem to have fallen into the habit of picking two outfits quickly, and just going with the flow. Previously, I would spend a good half an hour looking for things – or as the Ever Lovely Mrs J would say furtling through the cupboards.

Is that a mix of furtive and rummaging? 🤔 One for the talented Ms Dent perhaps in Dictionary Corner 🙂

Given the weather and dark night, I went with boots and two dresses. I did take a new Joe Browns’ dress to try on, but it didn’t sit right. Sizing huh? That’s an 18 and it’s too big, but my Roman dress (see image) in 18 fits just fine. I know, dress size roulette! Gah! A curse of too tight shoes and underwear that rides up, to those who don’t produce valid sizing! 😁

We did have a newcomer and, bless them, they decided to make a tactical withdrawal early on. It was a little too much for them and we’ve all been there.

You pop on your Big Girl Pants, arrive…. and then the magic that got your there starts to fade.

I’ll say this right now: it’s absolutely okay to take a break and it’s not a failure at any level. Sometimes, we just need a bit of time to ready ourselves. There’s no shame in that. There’s always another chance and a kind welcome at Chameleons 💜

Other than a kind welcome and tea, the other thing we seem to be blessed with is shared laughter. Mid evening, Andrea & Val had me laughing like a drain, and during the photos at the end, Diane caused me to crack up, the wee minx!

Monies

After last week’s tidy up at home, I brought in a selection of nail polishes and two sets of heels to sell on. I mean, I could’ve put them on Vinted or eBay, but as they weren’t expensive, the trade off in effort and money didn’t seem worth it. Plus, given the polishes weren’t full, that seems a bit sus.

So, at two quid a pop for each pot of polish, they went fairly quickly and that topped up the group’s funds a nicely. Likewise Val buying one pair of heeled sandals and Stevie has put dibs on the remaining set. That’s folk happy, I feel I’ve passed things on to people who’ll get use from them, and it tops up the group’s funds. What’s not to like?

Talking of funding, the card machine gadget was on its best behaviour, so no issues taking the subs. Result! 💸

Oh, in other news, the issue with the comments being shown as anonymous seems to be fixed following an update. Also, the side bar has had a bit of love to bring the widgets up to date with more modern code. Hopefully that’s all working now.

So, the weekend beckons and that means long walks with the hounds and the Ever Lovely Mrs J. Perhaps even, breakfast out as well 🐖 Dare to dream! 😁

  1. Your site seems to have an upgrade, a flying dialog poped up and wanted to known if wanted to subscribe, its never done that before

    1. Thanks for letting me know. I noticed it removed the email alerts around anyone who ‘liked’ a post or ‘followed’ the site.

If the follow pop-up starts to annoy folk, I’ll have a look in the settings to see if that can be turned off.

      1. I saw the popup just now and thought it a bit odd since I am already subscribed. I do look forward to updates from chez Jones.

I wouldn’t worry about the popup if it’s only a one off

      2. Thanks Cathy. If it’s just a one off pop-up, maybe that’s not so bad. FWIW, I got an email asking if I wanted to subscribe to my own blog. That did feel a bit odd 🙂

  2. Well, a quick glance at my Ultra-Kompleet Maximegalon Dictionary of Every Language Ever tells me that FURTLING is a legit word: (chiefly UK, intransitive) To gently delve; to probe or rummage tentatively. As with virtually every other word in the world, it has some sexual connotations too, but I’ll let you look those up yourself with the bedroom door closed.

Nice photos as ever, but I thought laughter was banned during UK winters. Standards are slipping.

I reiterate that slowing the pace works wonders for one’s wellbeing. I’m glad you are finding the time to do so.

    Have a nice week, Lynn.

    1. Rudery and double entendres within local parlance you say? Oh the humanity! 😁 TBH, I’ve only heard the word used to describe rummaging for something fruitlessly. I could imagine that being used for more ‘nudge nudge, wink wink’ comments, but it’s not something I’ve heard.

As to laughing in the winter months, firstly LOL 😉 Secondly, I think we’ll need okay, provided the Ministry of Joy don’t find out. Then again, maybe we can lie and say we were all laughing at the amount of money in our offshore tax haven, in which case, we’d probably get a certificate. 💩
