It’s a new day and a new site

A box of memories

If you’re reading this, you’ve somehow found your way to a new home for YATGB. I have tweaked the title a little in that it’s now Yet Another Transgender Blog. Back when I started writing, T-Girl was a term, although A) I’ve never been a girl, and B), maybe it’s time to update things a little.

So, why the switch? Well, in honesty – because I try to keep it that way here – I’ve been thinking about updating the blog for a bit. Like with the social media exit earlier this year, there was no One Big Thing that made me want to jump. Instead, it was a series of little things that all added up. Things like: do I actually own this site or does Blogger?; What happens if my Gmail account goes squiffy?; a batch of headlines over the year in which Google have started to shut services off, and having read a few articles about blog ownership, I wondered if it was better to be in charge (as much as you can of software) of the blog. Having heard a few horror stories about Instagram people who’ve lost their accounts and work, yeah, well, welcome to the new place. 🙂

I’ve been blogging now for, what, fourteen years… What, wait? 🙂 Good grief, that’s a while! Pretty much a post once a week, give or take, for all that time. My, how things have changed at home, for our family, and, of course, the T situation.

Where was I? Oh aye, I felt that with the new year coming up, that now might be a good time to switch. I’ve been running the Nottingham Chameleons site on a similar hosting arrangement for a good two years, and – touch wood! 🙂 – we’ve been doing okay.

So, here we are. Not so much blogspot any more, but self-hosted, and it’s going to be a learning curve. I’m still learning about the differences of the tech, and you may find your comment doesn’t appear straight away (hint: needs approval first). If anyone has any advice about a better way to handle authentication, please do share that. I would like to say a quick thanks to Susie for doing a bit of early doors testing.

Take care,

  1. Hi Lynn

I am so pleased that I have not lost you! I was a bit confused to start with, but to be honest thats not difficult! A new start is often a great idea, good luck with the new site, I will continue to follow you!

  2. Hi Lynn!
Couldn’t shake me off as you can see.
[Ed: Susie gave her a hit!]
You didn’t have to give the game away!
Don’t expect anything to go wrong if Susie has been beta testing!
All the best! Must write more..
    Abigale 💋

  3. Good idea I would say to set up like this. I do often think we entrust too much of our lives – certainly with things like our photos – to social media – and it could all disappear due to circumstances beyond our control. That said it’s one of those things I keep meaning to do something about but never do!

    1. Hi Claire. Hope you’re keeping well. Yeah, the shift over does mean a little more from the piggy bank, but at least I can shift things around. As you say about things disappearing – hopefully not! – but I think there’s something to be said about hoping for the best and planning for the worst. 🙂

  4. I was wondering why YATGB was suddenly down at the bottom of my bloglist, last post 13 years ago. Has Lynn done something strange with the blog notification process?! Ah, no. So I’ve just updated and you’re back up to a respectable “5 days ago”. Nice site 🙂

    1. Hi and welcome to the new place.

Yeah, i have hidden my old posts over on Blogspot, and that has somehow knocked the old RSS feed for six. Apologies for the confusion!

It’s odd, in that my last Blogger post was last Friday. Ah well, I guess the old blog feed will slide off people’s lists. I’ve not quite worked out how to find sites that linked to mine, so it’s going to be a work in progress. 🙂

I think I’ve got the blog feed working, so at least I can see when others post and visitors here will see that too.
