Infernal baggage

Hi, The other day, a pen friend and I were talking – well, in email – about getting out. At least, when the wintery wind and rain abate, and Spring starts. BTW, is someone you email a pen friend if you don’t actually write? 🤔 Swipe friend doesn’t quite sound right and tap friend even weirder 🙂 Post lockdown, a female friend had said to me that they were tired of jeans and trainers. They hoped to break out a dress for a change. Likewise a colleague said they’d missed their heels for work, even though she felt then at the end of a long day. I found myself writing ‘Yes, to be out again, to feel the sun on […]

Warnings, coping, and surviving

Hi, I think I can start this post by stating that the days around the weekend did not go well. I would add that it was no one’s fault and that I mention it because I try to keep YATGB honest. Yes, I’m aware that the hair, padding, shapewear, makeup, and not being 100% out make that statement jar somewhat, but hey, you can only do your best with what you have 🙂 TL/DR: it was pants, then things got better 😉 I can only describe the situation as being a slow descent into the dark woods. Not a relapse into depression, but certainly the withdraw of light and joy that accompanies that. I’m writing about this because A) blogging […]

Twist

Hi, Ah, Friday night at last. Hello old friend. I see your best mates Saturday and Sunday will be joining us later… This next bit may seem a bit odd, but then if you’re not expecting that at YATGB by now, I wager you may have missed a few posts 🙂 Now, there are a few rare times when I have a physical reaction around who I am. Or, more accurately, a response to the… issue of not being able to be who I need to be at certain times. I’m lucky in that such feelings are short felt and as a part timer, I’m mostly okay in Richard mode. As I’ve said before, it’s all fine until it isn’t. […]

Taking care

Hi, It’s been an interesting week for me from a mood point of view. There’s been no major issues, stresses, or worries, and yet, early this week, I was not feeling great I’m not wholly sure if it was down to poor sleep, chemistry in the brain, or feeling a little too much like the proverbial rat on a wheel. It may be that It Was Just One of Those Things where you’ll never know, and, even if you did, would knowing help? Well, it depends, but right now, the funk – sadly not the groovy kind – was very much in the ‘unknown unknowns’ zone 🙂 The good news on the above is having had the cognitive behavioural therapy […]

Glamuary

Hi, First off, good luck for this year. I feel I should add that I don’t mean that in the sarcastic or comedic sense of well, good luck with that. Certainly a phrase that’s possibly passed your lips in 2020. 🙂 I feel that the post Xmas/New Year period can be a little tricky. The festive season can be a great distraction with the bustle, celebration, time off, and what have you. After all that comes the long month of January. Not that it’s January’s fault, to be fair. It’s not got the Saturday morning lie in from the Friday night excesses, but more the month of with the welcome of a Monday morning. 😉 Why is it I look […]

The Body Politics

Hi, It’s been said that no good blog post starts by talking about the weather. I wonder if this makes Climate Change difficult to promote? 🙂 Given the Summer temperatures, travel into Europe, and a flexible dress policy at work, I’ve been in shorts for more of my time than usual. I’ll skip on the pun how a dress might be flexible. The shorts situation is both a good and a bad thing. The positives are that I can cool off quicker and therefore I’m able to concentrate at work. Given previous jobs where certain employers were, shall we say, less enlightened around office attire, I try to count my blessings. If I’m too hot, I get that heat funk […]
