Lessons Learned: Part XVI – The route to new

Hi, If you’ve been reading YATGB, you may have picked up on my occasional ‘down the rabbit hole’ curiosity of what makes us do what we do. I guess I am trying to make sense of what it is to be trans-something-or-other, somewhere under that big ‘ol inclusive trans* umbrella of identities and possibilities. Now, two things I love – other than the perfect heel, good hair, and a lippy that stays the course 😉 – are a diagram that helps with understanding something. Think of it not so much as a map of where we are, but some things we can point at, and maybe reflect, learn, or discuss. A smart person might have said a shared metaphor, but […]

Plans

Hi folks, A later than usual post this evening. I’ve been out all day and got back late. No grand drama or suchlike – thankfully. Something on the job front which didn’t come to pass. Still, on the upside, I won’t need to travel that way for some time again, and as the gig was not far from Suzie‘s part of the world, I got to meet up with a blogging friend. Due to travel distances, it was a bit of a quick coffee and off, but better than nothing. Talking of which I might be in luck for a day out on Tuesday (hint hint Val! ❤️) if all goes well. Escalating In the past I’ve heard and read […]

You may go about your business

Hi, This will be my second week of time off, and I dare say, that I’m beginning to get used to this 🙂 Mind you, my younger sister, rest her soul, had a cheeky sign stating Born to shop. Forced to work which I can agree with. I’m also mindful of some advice a former colleague got on their retirement: You’ll never be busier! [ Note to self: make sure you didn’t type bustier – that’s a different change in life and probably wishful thinking on my part 😁] Hyperfocus With the busy thing in mind, there’s still the routine of dog walks and applying for jobs in the morning. I have, however, given the kitchen a damned good clean […]

Some like it cool

Hi, Okay, so that’s the first week of not being employed. It’s been…. odd. I mean, sure, there’s the usual routine of getting up at the same time, dog walking, household stuff, and yet… Hmm. No meetings, no rushing to do anything, and also no stress of did I remember to do blah? Is it worrying that I could get used to this? 😁 I’ve applied for a few things, had some phone calls, etc; and it’s early days. I didn’t expect to walk into something instantly, so I am making the most of the time, by taking things steady. I think not rushing nor chasing will be the right answer – at least for me – to avoid that’s […]

Scene: Piblington Baggage

A man sits on a cheap plastic chair. The factory space is cold, damp, and a bright light shines is his face. There is little sound except the the occasional drip of water. Robert Hooksmith: Hullo? Is, is there anyone there? I’m very cold and someone’s tied me to this chair. Elderly voice: Hooksmith, you sit before the Council of People. Your crime is the abandonment of ethics – Robert: That’s not a law. I object! Elderly voice: As I was saying, the abandonment of ethics and the unlawful cancellation around the ECHR. Robert: Is this the toilets thing again? You woke nutters, you’ll – Young voice: Silence! The European Court of Human Rights. Do you not pay attention to […]

Gift not grift

Hi, Friday at last huh? Well, good news for those of us who don’t work the weekends, at least. Yikes, I hated working weekends back in the 90s. Saturdays & Sundays are made for relaxing, IMO. Well, okay, housework, errands, dog-walks, and then maybe some relaxing – but not being stuck at a desk! 🙂 A brief spell With a last minute summer trip, the Ever Lovely Mrs J and Child 2.0 headed off into the countryside. They had their hearts set on visiting a distance neolithic site, and this would mean an overnight stay. With the slightly cooler weather, I did wonder if I might get a day out, however work related, uhhh, work conspired against this. I did, […]
