A helping hand

Hi folks,

It’s been a busy day today, with meetings and appointments here & there. Still, that are all of the type where you’re helping out being helped, so it’s all good news.

Oh, how I am enjoying the part time hours! It’s certainly helping keep on top of things, and it’s a great feeling not to just collapse in a tired mess at 5pm on a Friday.

Polish the halo

Earlier in the day, I spent some time with an former colleague – well, virtually speaking – as they wanted some help, around getting on top of the hot digital mess, that modern office life seems to create.

We had a good chat about various things and we managed to focus enough on the actual issue as well. They seemed pleased by the results, and I’ve said my diary is open if extra consultancy is required.

Self-care

Afterwards, I was off to my leg appointment and I’m now the pleased owner of a pair of freshly waxed pins.

Like the nail growth of late, that’s something very… I guess affirming, about the situation.

The ‘wrongness’ is pushed back out of focus, and there is not the unquiet background tick of the dysphoria grumpometer. Each steady click and clack tightens the proverbial spring.

Now, as much as that last paragraph might seem negative, the truth is, I’m not feeling that pressure. The low level ratcheting is distant and coupled with underdressing – or more accurately – The Top Half Looks Blokey 😉, there’s something delightful in the state of Lynnmark 😁

The Obvious and the Rebellion

I and minded, perhaps of the old lyric:

T.V. is the place where the pursuit,
Of happiness, has become
the pursuit of Trivia

“Television, the Drug of a Nation” by the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprsy

So are my ramblings here trivial? In the giant swirling mess of history, possibly yes. 😉

But to be in a place where I am content; perhaps to be in a place where I can state this, with all that’s going on in this country and abroad, I would say no.

To have trans joy despite of the efforts of bigots and useful idiots, maybe that’s worth a knowing smile and to share.

  1. Posiblog of the week award. That’s all great news, Lynn. Reduce the dysphoria with some trans positive actions, increase your free time, share your knowledge, express your thoughts. Sounds good to me. Sue xx

  2. Oohhh, this was just what I needed to read about. Perfect! 9 out of 10, would read again 🤭

No ‘maybe’ about it – this is resistance, this is what it looks like. Short term? Little effect. Long-term? What we’re literally fighting for. So, yeah, a victory to be able to enjoy. ✊

    1. Thank you, Joanna. What fortune to be able to write about positive things. Yes, with you on why we’re pushing to remain, to exist, to just be.

  3. Lynn, it sounds like a beautifully balanced day, mixing productivity, helping others, and taking care of yourself. I love the way you describe those little affirming rituals too, the waxed legs, the nail growth, it really captures how small acts of self-care can push back the dysphoria and create a sense of calm and contentment.

And yes, having trans joy despite the chaos of the world is absolutely worth celebrating. It’s inspiring to see you embracing those moments of peace and affirmation. Thank you for the reminder that contentment and self-care are revolutionary in their own quiet way.

    Have a good week

    1. Yes Lotte, completely agree around how well the day went. Just the right blend of good stuff to make a great day.

I guess such things don’t just keep the Dysphoria Gremlin at bay, but lift my mood and keep me on the proverbial even keel. Cheerful is good and a long sustained level of contentment even better.

With the above in mind, being able to post cheerful, positive news – perhaps especially in today’s current malarkey – helps. I think it’s rewarding to write about the good things, and maybe for anyone reading this, they get to see it’s not all bad news.

  4. A nice positive post. I love it. Right back when I started my own blog, which happened to coincide with the Supreme Court’s choosing to legitimise transphobic doctrine, I borrowed a phrase from the punk band Idles, to sum up my approach to how I was going to deal it. ‘Joy As An Act Of Resistance’. And your closing statement certainly has a similar message to it.
