The old bag

Hi,

Let’s get stuck into it eh?

“I don’t like spam!”

First off, my apologies to those of you who have had their comments rubbished by the antispam gremlins. They love their job and can be a little over keen at times. I’ve tweaked the instructions a little, so with a bit of luck, things will improve. Perhaps, just before your post, you copy all the comment to your clipboard just in case. Isobel suggested this to me at Chams last night and it is something I’ll often do due to Blogger & WordPress having a moment now and then.

As to Spam: is there a veggie alternative? 🤔

All this for a night?

… and I don’t mean my excessive packing or inability to decide what to wear. Thank you, I’m here all week! 😉

Okay, iffy gags aside, or many a true word said in jest, is the effort I put in in terms of body care, nails, hair removal, and of course packing a bag; is it all for one night?

Perhaps from a binary or reductionist view, yes – but regular readers (and irregular ones too 😉) will know we don’t dig the binary at YATGB 😋

To someone looking in on how I live, perhaps it does look like I spend 99% of my time as Richard. But the thing is, the name Lynn is just that, a name. Maybe it’s social conditioning but I would feel odd being dressed all pretty and using my male name. Others may feel differently and that’s cool.

So, no, and as I’ve said before: I am always me, just dressed differently some times.

Being able to have my ears pierced, my pins smooth, brows tidy, and my nails a with a little length, those things all help me feel okay. Going back to an earlier post, it is akin to not being in pain – or more accurately without an ache rather than agony…. although on very bad days, it can be very painfully emotionally.

It’s a funny feeling to be a man physically, but to lean towards a more femme appearance – even if I have to hide it, as Sue’s excellent content points out.

Still, better to have the choice and enjoy the moments you have 💜

  1. If there is a veggie alternative to spam, I’m not sure I want to know, although I’m sure tofu probably comes into it somewhere.
Excessive packing r us. What if you have second thoughts after you’ve left and it’s too late to go back. Best to take everything, just in case.

    1. We have tofu fairly regularly and I’m not quite sure we’ve got the hang of it yet. The tastiest was having in rolled in soy sauce, cornflower, and air fried. Maybe if the veggie Spam was mushroom based, given we had a BBQ ripped up mushroom instead of pork. I preferred that to pulled pork as there was no fatty bits (and no piggies were harmed). The Impossible Burger is quite good as well.

Hmm. Does the above make me a tofu eating, Guardian reading, wokist? 😁

Yeah, the overpacking: better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it 🙂 One of the issues with not getting changed at home. Still, beggars can’t be choosers.

  2. I was brought up on PEK, I have fond memories of eating it fried, on plastic plates in my parents tiny sprite caravan.

I always keep a few tins in reserve – I think my family would need to be near starvation to try it though 🙂

Well the results you achieve for your few nights a month are impressive, and an inspiration to others no doubt – You did look really nice the other night, I probably failed to compliment you in person.

Would you trade one night looking good for two or three looking a bit meh ?

    1. Ah, the not always so gentle scent of PEK fritters and camping gas across the field. 😉 The things we used to eat back in the day! I do wonder how future generations will look back at our childhood. “So you used fossil fuel to reheat bits of dead animals? Both of which mean it’s nearly 45°C in January. Thanks, Granddad!” 😉

      “… the results you achieve … ”

That is so kind of you to say. Thank you ☺️ I don’t know about inspiring anyone. I guess it’s many years of practice and helpful advice from others. I still say if I can, anyone can; and that’s not humble brag, it’s just about finding what works for you.

Would I trade one night looking good for two or three looking a bit meh? A good question!

Honestly – or ‘not gonna lie’ as the cool kidz say 😉 – I approach a night out hoping I’ll feel okay in how I look. It’s a bonus if I feel pretty or I’m happy with how things turn out. Maybe those lowered expectations mean when things are okay, I’m pleased.

Not sure I’d want to trade a night where I get to socialise and be me, for a so-so evening where I’ve not got the time to express who I am. Does that make sense?

  3. Thought-provoking as always!

It was great to be able to make Chams, even if I didn’t get a chance to properly catch up. I made a curry already though (huge thanks) with my Middlest today – his very first – and it went down well. One might say, like a house on fire.

Anyway, yes, I agree with what you say. (As if that were ever in doubt)

    1. Thanks Joanna. Glad the post game across that way. Identity is a funny thing and that’s before you get to the complexity (madness?) of labels. Then we’re into how someone sees themselves and how others do.

Great to hear the curry went well. Not just the sharing of eating, but sharing the skills of making. 💜 As I popped (no, autocorrect, not pooped! 😁) the spare herbs and whatnot into the To Pass On box, I was reminded of your comment about curry last week. That and the idea that if you can add a little kindness to the world – as you did by sharing the meal with Middlest – that’s cool. Plus, who doesn’t love a good sci-fi pun and hearing someone squee with delight? 😎

PS: You’re always welcome to not agree. We all have different experiences.

  4. Ooh, thanks for the compliment, Missus. I’ll share the love and say how much I admire your fabulous outfit there. Very executive, or super smart secretary. Ms Jones has everything under control. Every item compliments everything else and the wearer.

I’m testing the new Spam tweak … If it works this’ll be the last line of my message

    Sue x

    1. Good to hear the changes to the antispam system worked. If there’s any other WordPress users reading, I checked to make sure only one plugin was protecting comments.

Thanks for compliment on the outfit. Funny, in bloke mode for work – not that I’ve been physically in the office for a while – it’s jeans plus a nice shirt. There might be more rules about dos and don’ts for femme clothing, but at least it’s not so bloomin’ dull 😉
