I was very much in need of time out with friends and this week’s Chams visit did not disappoint.
I was going to make a joke about the one of the differences between adults and kids, is kids get ‘a timeout’, but I couldn’t get a good punchline. 🙄 But what if adults did get the social cue to ponder their actions on the thinking step? Maybe someone might have remembered to pay their taxes? Maybe another might not be a person of interest to the police?
More likely, IMO, those who probably do need to -ahem- reflect on their decisions, would double down on them. “…and I would’ve gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids!” 😁
This week saw the resurfacing of an interview with Dustin Hoffman about his role in Tootsie. It seems the old TV interview made its way to YouTube bank in the day, and more recently over to TikTok. I’m 50, I am not ‘on the TikToks’ as no-one says ever. 😉 I guess spending sometime dressed as a woman woke him up. cR0SsderSsing tUrnZ uyo w0kE! 😋 Okay, made Hoffman aware of the weird standards of beauty femme people are held to… and your place in society if you don’t fit that narrow ideal.
“And they said to me, ‘That’s as good as it gets.’” Yeah, babe, I know what you mean. You may just have to make your peace with the hand you’ve been dealt.
Moving on….
I am between waxing appointments which hasn’t helped my sense of self. Mind you, my forearms are looking great still. Is there a way to coax your leg follicles to ‘be more arm’? 😁 That or somehow let them know to give up and then they wouldn’t need to be ripped free via hot wax.
The good news is that the visit to Chams went very well. A new person visited and shared that their GP I had recommended they come along. I was pleasantly surprised by that news.
Someone had very kindly brought cakes (happy birthday, Debbie 🎂) and we also had hot chocolate with marshmallows (thank you Joanna and Isobel 🌟). Luckily, I’d left the corsetry at home, having switched to hip pads.
Outfit-wise I was a bit sixes and sevens, and not quite able to decide. But, I was determined to avoid overpacking and being late getting changed. Despite a quick road test of posh skirt + blouse, I settled on a dress I’ve had a while. Thanks to Val for the photo and putting up with using my smartphone, rather than the usual camera.
The replacement silver hoop earrings turned out to be okay. You can never quite tell with ordering on-line. Maybe I was looking in the wrong places, given finding simple and reasonably sized hoops were tricky to find.
So given last night’s wonderfully random conversation, some time to be me, and a Friday with only one meeting; it seems like I’m being eased very gently into the weekend.

You know (and I think I have hinted at this before), your posts the day after a Chams meeting are more upbeat and funnier than in weeks when there’s no meeting. This fortnightly booster shot against blokeyitis seems to do you a lot of good. I notice similar positivity from attendees. It’s not my place, being a thousand miles away, to suggest, but I merely wonder if there’s scope for having a weekly meeting instead? I appreciate costs, time, commitment and all the rest are a serious consideration, and I’m in little doubt you’ll have thought of it yourself, but given the tangible and intangible benefits …
You won’t believe this, but I’m drafting my Friday night blog post and the line “…and I would’ve gotten away with it, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids!” appears in my draft as well. Curse you, Jones, you cause me to rewrite! …

Funnily enough, Susie and I were talking on email about Velma’s coming out (as much as a fictional character can) and how that’s been quite the long game. A few writers had gone there, but it seems the studios felt the public weren’t ready for that. 🙄
I think Chams was once a week many years ago. Certainly well before my time – talking of which, I think it’s my anniversary this month (2006!). ❤️
I seem to recall Val and I talking about twice a month visits and (short version) how did I cope. The truth is, with a young family something has to give, and you have to make the best of it. Not to get the violin out 😋 but with school runs, home care, work, and whatnot: it’s not easy to squeeze time in. However, I know there’s many folk who do not have my good luck of twice a month.
I am hopeful that if I can reduce my hours at work, that that might give extra opportunity when needs must.
“Dave? You seen this flexible working request from Jones in IT? Says here that for peak work performance and reduced mental stress, they’d like a free hour for – and I quote – ‘being gender fabulous in a built up area’. Seems split into 40 minutes prep and 20 mins ‘drab return’.” 😉
The easy (!!) option would be to just come out and go 50/50. Not sure that’s a serious option.
Sure, absolutely understandable. I hope the reduction in Bloke Duty Mode hours can lead to a corresponding increase in Fabulous Fem Time 🙂
As for Velma, I find the current fetishisation of the character quite disturbing!

You can only hope the extra time leads to reducing stress and giving opportunity as well. The latter would certainly help with the former.
Eugh. I’m not sure I want to know about anything iffy about Velma. Sometimes, I think being off social media is a good thing.
Aw, glad we were able to lift your mood! Our conversation was gloriously geeky and randomly generated. I have started watching the recommended animated series today and, yes, not for children but, also, yes: most enjoyable!
I did wonder if we slipped a little too far down the rabbit hole, but I think we managed to haul things back out 😁 At least no one started on about [insert thing you find tedious here] 😉
Good to hear you’re enjoying the Vox series. The Peripheral is rather good too. Be warned, you may need to pay attention as it’s Gibson sci-fi.
It was very nice to hear of the GP recommendation, and it seemed like they enjoyed their visit too.
I wonder if the GP’s knowledge of us had anything to do with the Outreach team that visited a while back.

Yes, that was rather good wasn’t it. I hope the new visitor enjoyed their evening as well. To be fair, it can be a lot to take in on one night.
