Clocks and tick tock, tick tock

Hi,

Do you have one of those days/weeks in which time seems to run away with you? Sometimes, I wonder if there’s three types of time: minutes, anti-minutes, and life minutes.

Minutes: dependable, regular, and standard sixty seconds, and building up nicely to a whole hour. Just three minutes? Boil an egg or make yourself a nice cup of tea 🙂

Anti-minutes take an age to tick by: downloading a file, waiting for the kettle, double Maths on a Friday, Death by PowerPoint, finding your nail varnish still isn’t set, etc.

On the other hand, the cosmic balance is kept steady by life minutes: time goes by in a flash where you’re in a rush, enjoying yourself, just closed your eyes for that magical forty winks, etc.

So it was that Thursday had quite the spell of both. I was out of the door fairly sharpish and yet stopping off for supplies ate into that time. Boots for beauty supplies: nail varnish, remover, etc; nipping over to buy sugar for the group’s beverages; and then waiting at a nearby chippy for a tea-on-go. I then lost track of time getting ready testing out a gaff (didn’t work or I’m doing it wrong) and my new hip pads (which work a treat).

The truth of it is that I’m not very organised and this was highlighted by being late to set off an appointment on Friday. Would you like more stress in your life? Why not try new Setting off late? Get stuck in traffic, feel guilty at leaving the other person hanging, get cross at your smartphone for not being able to ring them!

So, ineptitude aside, let’s think on the good things. Oh, and talking of such, I read a few articles this week about the benefits of joy. Not so much the idea of wanting to be happy – possibly as wanting reminds us of what we don’t have – but taking stock of the small moments that come along. Realising the cup of tea you’ve got is warming your hands, you, and the time spent is a break from whatever you were doing. Being cosy in a blanket or enjoying the autumn sunlight on your face during a walk.

Autumnal attire

Last night’s joy was finding my new hip pads felt comfortable on, aren’t such a faff as my DIY pair, and that I’d not wasted my money. Team them with a skirt that doesn’t often work with the old pads, and some fave knee boots, well, I was feeling rather chuffed. Not bad for a old bird 😉

Today I managed to find a gap to visit the waxing specialist – even if I was late to that too (oh the guilt!) – but now I’m smooth of pin once again and will be for some time. That and the conversation and, frankly, pampering is lovely. It’s not – okay, yes, I’m aware of the unawareness of what I’m just about to write 😀 – what I was going to say was, as a bloke, it’s the closet I would often get to a treatment, was having my hair buzzed. I’ve had my nails manicured before and that was relaxing and I felt quite pampered. So to with the waxing; yes, it’s not completely pain free, but the conversation, talc application, and post-wax oil – a bit like a quick massage – certainly adds to the after glow of time well spent.

Curve

As to the pads, they were not too expensive and although they are made in China, there was no faffing about of waiting umpteen weeks, nor madness around sizing. They come fitted in a mid thigh compression/cycling short affair and there’s a high-rise ‘over you tum’ top to it. I can share the link of anyone is interested. In terms of DIY hacks, I guess you could add in two pairs of shoulder pads to them, and that might help in the hip/shoulder ratio. That or put more booty junk in the trunk 😁

Not a bad way to ease into the weekend and hopefully they’ll be more relaxed minutes, than the two days off going by in a flash.

  1. I can’t abide being late normally, but Izzy time is it’s own time zone behind by at least 30 mins

I have similar shorts, but they only have bum pads, would be intrested to look at the hip ones.
The pads in ones i ‘ve bought previously don’t seem to really give you much extra, sort of placebo curves.

    1. I wonder if there’s times when you’ve just got to accept and lean into the cosmic flow to accept lateness.

That or get a grown up helper to assist with timings 😉

I thought these shorts would be mostly hip (daddio), but the foam shape continues, so no need for padded knickers.

If you’re about as I’m getting changed, let me know and we could compare notes.

    1. Perhaps we need psychic clocks. 🤔 Ones that look into the future, spot the lateness, and magically change their time, so you still faff about, but get there bang on.

“Hold up. It’s still dark outside. Are you mugging me off psi clock?” 🙂

A mahoosive yay for joyful moments and yes, most pleased with the results.

I hope your luck is improving BTW 💜

  2. At the moment it’s double maths every day, with extra prep at weekends.
I still think the inclusion of Powerpoint in Office was a deal with the devil. (I hope the person who made it was pleased with his blues guitar skills) It’s main problem is that it forces you to think in bullet points, rather than telling the story the way you want to tell it. And once a company imposes approved templates, all help is lost.
Gaff testing? Intrigued but maybe something better discussed privately. Home made versions all have different drawbacks.
If you have a lot of time and/or sewing skills you can make some effective pads from and old t shirt and a bag of kapok.

    1. Gah, extra homework and double Maths? Down with this sort of thing! I hope your situation improves soon.

Yeah, reading the listed bullet points off the screen is a dislike of mine. Where I’ve seen folk use that well, is using them as an sort of summary introduction. Then, maybe as a summary slide at the end, but not explained. At least, that’s how I’ve seen folk create PowerPoint based videos and that seems to work.

As to fixed templates; now with added monotony and unless very carefully designed, they break accessibility guidelines & tools as well. You could try Sway (in 365) for a more storytelling approach.

Feel free to ask about the gaff via email if you want. BTW, what is kapok?

      1. Powerpoint was very much my program of choice for educational programming. But, having said that, my use of powerpoint was… apparently not what people expected. If you’re interested, I can fire you a link to a couple of videos I did during the Lockdowns using my own powerpointrs by way of evil illustration. 🙂 Or, of course, if not – you don’t have to. For anyone else reading this comment – assume, dear reader, that everyone was very interested and I showed them something amazing. 🙂

      2. That’s both you and yet not you at the same time. The five moment contained a classic aside (“it’s got out of hand…” 😁). Shades of Horrible Histories’ Bob reporting due to the pace, but in a good way.

Please, do start a YouTube channel about history and whatnot. If watch the sh** of of it.

  3. I see your offbeat humour is back in full here, and that’s good given you’d previously felt a bit out of sorts.

Little things bring joy, as a contrast to the wider worries. I try to spend my day noticing hundreds of nice things that can be seen, smelt, tasted, heard and felt.

As ever, you look very elegant, contemporary and feminine. I see it’s winter boots season down your way and don’t they look smart. Enjoy. Also enjoy the nice smooth legs, which are one of the best things a TGirl can really appreciate!

    Sue xx

    1. Yes, offbeat in that if regular folk are looking at world as twelve o’clock, I seen be running at 11.46 🤪 Perhaps it’s a sign that things are improving and that’s reason to be cheerful in itself.

I may take you up on trying to spot those moments to enjoy. A brief walk on the company clock, a good cup of tea, a fuss with the dogs, etc.

Yes, it’s very much boot weather at the mo. I think Wee Man was a toddler when Mrs J bought those boots and they’ve been reheeled at least once. They seem somewhat classic and that suits me just fine. Thanks for the kind words as well, Sue.

As to the leg situation, that’s inspired me for this week’s post. Ta, Mrs!

    1. At what point does comfort start to balance out even win out over style, I wonder? I did mind myself looking at shoes the other day – okay, that’s quite frequent 🙂 – and thinking “hmm, can I walk in those?”

I’ll keep an eye for the email.
