Make do and match

Hi, Well, that’s the end of a slightly too busy week and it’s Friday night at last. I just hope Monday morning doesn’t pounce like an elephant assassin made of bricks… 😉 As I wheeled in the, uh, wheelie bin this morning, the recycling team had kindly provided a wee calendar* listing the collections in 2022. Wait… 2022? That seems to have snuck up on me. I think the lockdowns and the home working have thrown my sense of time a little. ( * Not in the way the Orange Blowhard would look forward to 😋 ) If the Ever Lovely Mrs J was here, she’d probably say something about my excessive working. I think she’s right and my plan […]

Scene: a glass walled meeting room with a large table and a number of folk in business clothes are sat discussing things. Mei: Our thanks to River for their presentation on cost savings while out of the office. This brings us to item four on the agenda, our cancellation of our contract with the Equality and Diversity Group Initiative, or EDGI as some of you may know them. Ronald, have you got your slides ready? Ronald starts clicking on his laptop. Sarah: Does that mean we’ve hit our diversity goals, Ronald? That does sound good news. Ronald: Umm. Not exactly. Faras: Have they failed to provide the consultation and workshops then? Ronald: Again, not really no. Mei: Are any of […]

TFIF

Hi, Politer readers may wish to substitute the F in that acronym to make it Thank Goodness It’s Friday 😉 This week has been lots of little things adding up and when it comes to keeping your stress levels down, that can be tricky with a seemingly omnidirectional front. At least if that’s not an oxymoron: how can it have a front if it’s from all sides? 😋 Shall we talk about nice things instead? Script You might have noticed a few midweek posts called Script and there’s no judgement of you haven’t 😉 With the negativity and BS from certain outlets – the media and the government – it can feel like you are trying to hold up a […]

Script: The Inspection

Scene: a group of friends sat at around table in a busy restaurant. Mike: Back in a mo. If the waiter comes by, I’ll have the pie and chips off the board with a pint. Ale or stout, no lager, thanks. Scene: Mike wanders off and people at the table continue chatting. A moment later there’s shouting from near the bar, an orange light starts to flash, and there’s a low level siren going off. Mita: What? Don’t tell me this place has had one fitted as well. Sarah: I’ll go. It’s my turn. Mita: Look at them all scurry.. You’d think there was a crocodile in there or something. Jake: Or the fashion police. It’s like an explosion in […]

Tired of that

It’s Friday evening and I’ve closed the lid on the work laptop, the boy dog is currently snuggled up with me, and I can hear the distant pop of fireworks. Upstairs, the Ever Lovely Mrs J is talking to her mum on the phone. I am okay, although somewhat frustrated by the barrage – not of fireworks – but media BS that continues to paint transgender community in a negative light. The seeming continuous background pop, bang, and whizz of bigotry. It’s very tiring. I’m sure I’ve sprained the muscles behind my eyes 🙄 Yes, last year I took a news break and I felt better for it. This year, it feels the attacks have stepped up and, like Climate […]

Script: On the QT

Scene: a well lit identikit office bathroom. The door opens as a man enters. He’s carrying a large sports bag. Ralph: Afternoon, Jim. Alright, chap? Jim: Oh, y’know. Fair to shite. Ralph laughs. Jim: Here, be a pal and zip me up would you? Ralph draws the zip closed on the back of Jim’s dress. Ralph: This is lovely. You been exercising? Jim: Thanks, mate. Got it in the sale. Exercise? You do know me, right? Ralph: You couldn’t get into that Boden’s number before last month. You’ve lost weight. Jim: Aye, well, that’s the thing about infiltrating these women groups. You don’t half learn a few things. Self care for one, and I don’t mean blooming fashion and dieting. […]
