On advice

Hi, Tis the last week of the fortnight half-term and also of October. To those of you enjoying Halloween, I hope you have a good one, whatever your plans are 🎃 Well provided they are kind and ethical. 🙂 maeUrGh, hALidYs gon wOK3 Agaun! 😁 Typewriter The other day I was looking in a gift shop – they sell items from artists & makers around the area 🩷 – and my gaze fell upon an old mechanical typewriter. A proper sturdy item; one that looked like it would survive heavy ordinance (BTW, happy Fallout Day, gaymer geeks 🤓). For a moment I remembered struggling with one in the mid 80s, wondering if it would improve my school work. TL/DR: it […]

When shall we folk meet again?

Hi, I read the other day that if you’re not quite feeling something, that rather than thinking can I be bothered?, it may be wiser to reflect on will I enjoy it when I’m there? I will be honest and say I’ve been a bit tired this week – nothing stressful or worrying, just modern life – and as such, I wasn’t 100% sure about packing everything for Chams. But…. 🙃 ‘Tis the Halloween Do but once a year – yea gads, I’m already leaning into Shakespearean tones, and I’ve not even mentioned witches yet! 😁 From o’cross the land, they were called; gathered,Bedecked in darkness with deed filled hearts,Of sharpened nail, with canines long, are the Chosen, Know them […]

The Slow Outing Club

Hi, With Autumn half-term upon us, the Ever Lovely Mrs J and Child 2.0 decided on a last minute trip for a few days. They’re both now back, safe & well, having enjoyed their roadtrip to some historic sites down south. Muggins here, stayed home to look after the hounds, and as my snoring isn’t great when we share a room; ensure my lovely partner and teen get a good rest. But how might I pass the time, home alone, once the dogs are walked and the morning chores sorted? Well, I wonder 😉 Getting ready As I was on my Todd yesterday, I had a rare gift of not being in bloke gear, and needing to get changed. Instead […]

A brain in another dimension

Gah, I’ve got brain flit at the moment. It’s like my mind is a cage of canaries who’ve been on the Bolivian Marching Powder, and someone has just hit play, on some high speed rave. Still, at least they’ve laid off rubbing Vicks over themselves! 😁 What on Earth was that about? Urban myths eh? Jeez, I had one coffee this morning, I’ve been out on errands, and cleaned…. and that’s not shifted it. As much as the creativity, the humour, and (when useful) hyperfocus seem boons from (as yet undiagnosed) ADHD, I could do without the restlessness. That’s quite wearing….. and I don’t have to live with me 😁 I am also behind on replying to emails, which is […]

Quiet moments

Hi, As a break to the usual writing – if you can call blogging that 🙂 – I’m sat in a café, enjoying the ambience and an oat milk mocha. Being partly Scots means I’m powered by oats and being one of those horrible woke people who care about cows, I’ve trying to reduce my dairy intake over the last few years. Sometimes, I think there’s a cheeky gift from finding a spot of quiet during the week’s hustle and bustle. Not that things have been difficult or taxing, yet the days have gone quickly of late. I remember someone saying with a wink, to a colleague who was retiring: “you’ll never be busier”. Perhaps it’s like your monetary budget, […]

Curveballs

Hi, No, not a medical condition – thankfully!😉 – but when things don’t quite go as expected, and you need to flex. Last week, I had the chance for a morning out and I had hoped to meet up with Val for a coffee & a chat. Due to some unavoidable work complications, unfortunately, Val was needed elsewhere. No fault or blame here, things change and sometimes you’ve got to bend with the wind. Yes, the breeze, not the other type! 😉 With time on my hands, I decided to switch things around and head down to Leicester instead. It had been an age since I was last there and I think altering your routine is good for the old […]
