Hi,

Something is off in the state of Lynnmark this week. No, not a visit from the Anxiety Goblin or the Black Dog, thankfully.
Instead, a growing level of incompetence and tiredness. A lovely pairing if you want to embarrass yourself and generally make a right toe* of things.
(See also a pig’s ear. For non Brits reading this, getting things so very wrong. Hmm. I’m now curious what other cultures/languages have as similar phrases. 🤔)
Example one
Thursday, I had my outfits picked, bag packed, and I’d had a refreshing hot shower as part of getting ready. I remembered to pop to the shops, so Child 2.0 and the Ever Lovely Mrs J had something tasty for their tea.
As I popped upstairs to wish Mrs J goodbye, she looked at me, and said “Umm, you do know it’s the sixth, right?”
Sigh.
Still, on the bright side, at least I did not make my way across Nottingham before realising. Or worse, getting changed and as the bright light of the blooming obvious pierces the brain fog, the fact that I’m sat on like Wilma NoMates….
Example Two
Child 2.0 asked for some folders for their schoolwork, a five pack of A4 plastic wallets. Being the helpful (/S) parental unit, I offered a ten pack as they would come in, and he asked for a few just last month. With the nod of approval and feeling I had done a good deed, I ordered them….
… and a ten pack of A5 arrived. Oh dear, Lynn. Do you need a sit down and a tea, love? It’s just not working this week is it. Gah, clearly my grasp of the facts, numbers, and ability to hold a thought in my head for ten seconds is slipping 🙄
Still, said folders have been returned and the new – and correctly sized ones – bought.
Confusion Conclusion

I’m not going to do anything important, technical, or otherwise; at least not without assistance. 🙂 But, if all I have to worry about in life in my inability to shop online and use a calendar, maybe life isn’t that bad eh? 😁
I know my sleep isn’t quite right at the mo, and there’s some frustration going on away/outside from home. Perhaps I need to stop taking the stoopid tablets, and switch to chill pills to disengage. There’s a thought. Mind you, everything is more difficult when you’re tired.
In positive news, I decided to book a day off and by lucky happenstance, the Ever Lovely Mrs J messaged me yesterday to see if I wanted company or if I was doing stuff on my own. Well as much as a morning of housework and afternoon gaming is nice, one does not simply 😉 turn down the opportunity for a long walk in the fields and wandering in for brunch at a favourite café 🩷
Also, I got an email from Mermaids – yes, the charity who support trans kids and their parents. It seem there’s now a group who meet in Nottingham. While I doubt Child 2.0 will want to go – he likes his own space, books, and doing his own thing – it’ll be useful for parents who get in with Chams, asking for help.

Sorry to hear about the goblins this week, Lynn. I’m not aiming to counter your feelings which are very real but, to be honest, most days are like that for me. So much so that, a few days ago, I remembered to take my shopping list with me for once and got everything done and I was very proud as normally it’s not like that, so I put a big tick in my diary to signify a job well done! There aren’t many ticks overall so I’ve introduced diary entries about having breakfast or taking a break and they can get ticks, too. It makes the whole thing seem more positive! I perceive ageing as one cause, and the constant stimulation we get all day long from screened machines, endless broadcasts and general noise, too much caffeine, and a much higher number of (trivial) things to do than in the past, so in the end your concentration can’t keep up with it all. So I’ve reduced the blame towards myself and recognised that so much stuff these days is actually out of my control. You seem to have the right approach, though: more time with the people and things we love and less of the chores, most of which are actually not critical. Have a nice weekend.

Hi Sue. Thanks for sharing and FWIW, it didn’t come across as a counter. I think I am not used to being…. well, so clueless. I mean, sure, we all make mistakes, but this week feels like one where I was continually on the back foot, and the worst bit is, not noticing until later. That is out of character, even for a putz like me 🙂
Maybe I need to lean on your advice – and that of a recent web comic: “I’m going to give myself a Like” ❤️
Sympathies. Hope the brain fug clears soon. Tiredness or just general discombobulation?
The Mermaids support group sounds a good fit, both as a trans parent and parent of a trans teen, and also as a link for Chams. (What’s the equivalent of ‘both’ for three options?)
Yes…? 😉 I would guess at unuseful cocktail of the two.
As to the Mermaids thing, Mrs J said that it might be useful for me and others. I mean we have a trans son, I’m somewhere under the trans* umbrella, and – as you point out – there’s the Chams element too. I need to have a think about it and decide.
PS: Apologies at being rubbish at replying to emails. I will get round to it! ❤️
Its call getting old, it happens to all of us at some stage, either that or the Black Dragon is moving across your celestial home and the Knight of the Morning is going to make a visit 🙂
Oh, I don’t mind a visit from the the Black Dragon or the Knight of the Morning. Just as long as they don’t kick off and start hitting each other.
Even then, their visits are still better than the Orange Loon. I mean, that stinky old bird has the most awful call and smell. 😉
Please do not get me started on that vulgar uncouth boorish ignoramus
