Hi,
Nearly a month off over the festive period and then a full five day week back at work? What could possibly go wrong! 😉 I think I have become rather comfortable with getting up for nine, having a leisurely stroll, late breakfast, and the all important afternoon nap. So yeah, energy levels are not great at the mo.
A disturbance in the farce

A mix of the full week, the Ever Lovely Mrs J not being well (not her fault and I did worry a bit), plus some contract changes meant my stress levels where not where I’d like them. Yeah, that’s some classic Jones understatement right there 😊
I was very much in need of my Magical Big Girl Pants to keep my cool. Fingers crossed it all works out. Oh, I should add that Mrs J is better than she was, but it highlighted the necessity for home working to balance caring needs.
Okay, so while I wasn’t chewing the side of the sofa, I was certainly more than frazzled come Thursday…. So, it was a Bloke Mode visit. TBH, I did not have the energy for shower, shave, slap, and whatever wardrobe alliterative wordage starts with S. Sashay? 🤔

Hit and Miss
Given the post-Xmas sales, I had a look to see if anything caught my eye. With the cold weather, I did wonder if I might manage a long skirt plus some over-the-knee boots. I had the skirt, just not the boots. Ah, a pair – flat as well – in my size and at a very reasonable price. Well, it would be rude not to! 😏
As much as said boots fitted nicely and were comfy to walk in. My Shrek-like height meant they were more just-near-the-knee than OTK. Given that, they were not fitted and while I might have mackled some threading at the back to make them work, well, that felt like a disaster in the making. So, back they must go.
However, I did happen to spot a reduction on a miniPC. The one I bought last year is okay for web browsing and some video, but it starts to struggle when I use it for office stuff or on-line meetings. This new one is ever so wee… diddlier… smaller, faster, quiet, and fits nicely on the back of the monitor. The spare unit will go upstairs for some testing: maybe Chrome Flex OS or a lightweight Linux distro #GeekPoints
At Xmas I bought myself a dress from Popsy that I’d had my eye on since the summer. However, I wasn’t so keen as to pay full price. Thankfully, the Sales Fairy provided their magic and a bargain was to be had. Maybe that’ll be worn properly next time around 🤞
Chams
With Mrs J not being 100% during the week, I did have to call on Val’s kindness in case I needed her help in opening & closing up on the night. Luckily Mrs J was better and headed out with Child 2.0 as I set off.

While I felt the slight worry of “but if you don’t pack & prep, what if you change your mind?” I pushed it away and focused on talking with friends, listening to them talk about their festive break, and trying not to worry too much. To riff on a friend’s words: that’s a problem for Future Lynn 😁
The lack of having to get changed at the start and end of the meeting, meant it was… well, less rushed. Just a case of setting up the kettle, chairs, and whatnot; and not needing to watch the clock before turning back into a pumpkin.
I took some stollen along that I’d been given for Xmas. It was too much for me to eat, so as sharing is what we do at Chams, that did the rounds. It had poppy seeds in, so was an interesting sweet/savory blend. Nice, given I find regular stollen to be too sweet some times.
At one point in the evening – I think with talking to Joanna – we mentioned our children, and the tought occurred to me that in the next eighteen months, Child 2.0 may leave the nest too. As much as it’s been great to see Wee Man make a go of things, find a place to live, and all the rest; I do miss him. I wonder what it’ll be like when Child 2.0 make their way to university or similar? I guess I will find out!

Mmm, stollen.
Poor Mrs J, glad to hear she’s improving.
This week’s young goblin is evidently watching Doctor Who!
As for tall boots, I have the opposite problem in that knee-high boots tend to become overknees!
Talking of which, did I ever tell you the one about the pygmy with the sore bottom? No? It’s OK, the word pygmy is PC; I checked.
So, you know pygmies, right? They’re these short little guys who live in the rainforest. And in the rainforest, what does it do? It rains! And every time it rains this poor little pygmy gets a sore bottom. He’s very distressed about it, and not a little embarrassed. So one day he decides he’s had enough of it and will go all the way to the big city and seek out a doctor. It’s many days’ journey so he packs some kit, waves goodbye to his family and friends and spludges off in the rain to find a doctor.
A week later, he’s back, all smiles. Everyone’s happy to see him and they ask if he’s cured.
“Oh, yes,” he says, “the doctor was a great help. He simply cut two inches off the tops of my wellies!”
Have a good weekend

Unfortunately – and quite similar to badly made policy – the stollen collapsed once public and pressure was applied 😉 It did taste rather nice though.
The wellie joke – careful with the autocorrect, Lynn 😉 – reminds me of Sissy & Aida (Roy Barraclough & Les Dawson?), except that’s about a rash on Les’s character’s leg. Perhaps a rework for the 70s TV audience. It would probably work again with Hobbits if dealing with nerds…. like me 😁
Mrs J is much improved thanks for asking 🩷
As to the goblin, the expression may be explained by watching Dr Who. Maybe not the best plan if anxiety is an issue 😁
Here’s to a relaxing weekend! 💤
D’you know, you’ve dragged some very ancient memories up from the cobwebby depths of my aging mind and I think you are right that Cissie and Ada discussed a similar problem. Their sketch didn’t involve bottoms, though, which, lets face it, are always the butt of a good joke. And bad ones, too (as my mother-in-law keeps reminding me – gurn). I miss Les Dawson!
I confess I ate two whole stollens all by myself through December. Mine, all mine. Precious!
Sue x
“…two whole stollens…”
LOL 😁 It’s fine about the stollen. One for breakfast and the other for second breakfast 😉
If you get chance to see a documentary on Les Dawson. It’s well worth a watch, IMO. I guess with certain jokes, they are reworked, updated, and shared. I think you told me one about Lady Penelope and Parker. I’ve heard the same version of that but it’s a lady and a cowboy who works for her.
The stolen did taste nice, better than some really sweet stuff they sell in Asda.
Looking forward to the popsy reveal ! you reminded me I need to order some tights from there too. They seem very hard wearing.
Hope things go smoother in a few weeks 🙂
Izzy
Glad you enjoyed it, Izzy. Like you, I was pleasantly surprised, given some previous ones – no, autocorrect, not precious 😁 – have been a bit sweet. Good for the soul but probably not the waistline 🙂
Oh, if you’re buying tights, I would recommend Snag. There sizing is amazing and some amazing colours & designs. They’ve been keeping me warm so far. I’ll have a look to see if I’ve got a discount code.
Oh, and thanks for the well wishes. I hope so too 🙏
I, for one, was very glad to see you at Chams, thank you for the chat! I am sorry that I just didn’t pick up how much you weren’t shot at over the last week (sorry, had to get that reference in first before you did!) but know that our conversation really helped recharge my social batteries (which had rather run down over the previous nearly a fortnight).
As for wardrobage words beginning with S: sequins? Spesh? (for special)
Ha ha! Shots fired but not literally – which I’ll take as a good thing 😁
Good to hear that the chat helped you recharge 🩷 A mutual natter that helped us both then 🙏
Oh! The penny has just dropped – or the tea spilled. Slay 👑 Sequin suggested that.
Shower, shave, slap, slay 😁
