A better place

Hi,

The end of the week and thank my lucky Big Girls pants, it’s Friday off as well. Get in! 💃

Blue Monday – no, not the song – is behind us and it’s the long, slow walk into Spring. Yes, we’ve still got the icy winds of Feb to go. That and March’s you put all your warm clothes away? Ha, you fool! but the nights do not seem quite so dark and the morning’s not quite so cold. Plus, I heard the most joyful birdsong while out.

With a non-working Friday – make your own jokes about what I do when I am in the office😊- this means a good tidyup and sort out. I will be honest and say that this is not my strong suit because I am a lazy person. That said, with a full morning to just get stuck in, it does feel like I’ve accomplished something. I guess that’s the benefit of work where you can see what you’ve done has made a difference. It means that the weekend is free to relax and not have to juggle the chores with dog walks and visits. Not to mention no ingress of activity on afternoon naps and/or gaming 😉

Lucky

My favourite hosery company, Snag Tights, sent out an email late Friday evening saying they were offering free tights. They are being given away because this is a new line for the company and the email stated they wanted folk to try them and then feedback.

Disclaimer: I am not getting money/goods/services for mentioning this; I’m saying because I felt this was happy news and maybe, if you’re lucky, they still have some in. Yes, you will need to pay for postage.

But, hey, with brighter spring weather, perhaps it’s time to switch up from opaques and try some new sheers. How long my take to arrive, I’ve no idea, but I’ll post a review when they come in.

Pins

Talking of legs, it was the first deWookification appointment of the year this week. I can’t believe it’s been over eight weeks since the last visit, but I guess that’s the festive period – and all that lovely long holiday! 🎄

While there are some moments that require a sharp intake of breath, generally, waxing is pain free. Maybe that’s my leghair having been on retreat due to my age, genes, and/or just good ol’ fashioned dumb luck. That aside, the conversation and the process – maybe even the social acceptance? – all help put a spring in my step, so that’s worth every penny.

Finds

Some of the items I bought in the sale had to go back and the money has come back into my account. Two things that haven’t been returned are a fancy shirt (Richard mode) and some leather look jeans (Lynn mode). I have been after a pair of the latter for an age, and despite trying Vinted or a few of the usual haunts, nothing quite worked in terms of fit. Ha! Look well when I try them on and you lot go maybe not! 😁

I’ve boxed up a load of the Ever Lovely Mrs J’s old clothes, so provided I can huff and shuffle myself to the car, that’ll be a drop off to the local charity shop. I have popped some of the in better nick items for the Thursday Night Massive – sorry, Chameleons – to peruse next time.

That’s it for this time and wishing you all the best for the weekend, whatever you’re up to.

  1. I must have the name of your waxing technician! – mine is good, but I can’t say painless! 🙂

As for the tights, I’ll be wearing my usual skinny jeans and socks. My theory being the older one gets the colder one gets.

My push bike has been fixed, so no more “icy winds” please. Well, one can only ask.

    Looking forward to summer…

    1. I can email the details of that helps 🙂 ‘S’ explained that there are different types of waxing (who knew!), so maybe that explains it.

Well, if you get colder as older, I guess I’ll be layering up even sooner 😁

      Good luck on the bike.

  2. It’s possible that the words “free” and “tights” are the best in the English language. Put them together and you have a vision of heaven! Snag traditionally catered for, ahem, more visible girls and I didn’t use to fit their customer profile but I notice they have expanded (if that’s the word) to cater for us who never developed beyond ankle-biter size. So thanks for the heads-up.

In answer to the previous query, not only are there different types of waxing but there are different qualities, makes and types of waxes and strips, different techniques, different levels of skill among technicians and different ways people experience pain. As ever, shop around. Personally, I find leg and back waxing OK. The worst thing is bikini season when your tummy needs to look its best. Not even the most competent waxer, in my experience, can help you with the soft, vulnerable belly area. Take something to bite on.

    Have a lovely weekend.

    1. Yeah, the sizing is interesting – and I don’t mean in a weird way for once! The company state that they design for the size a person is, rather than up/downscaling from a size twelve. I’ve noticed their sizing has a short option for some items.

PS: I’ve only ever had my tum waxed once – and no, it wasn’t due to the cost of it having it’s own postcode 😉. As much as the specialist was very good, it did sting a bit. Better than epilation though.

Bond: “You expect me to talk?”

Goldshanks: “No, Mr Bond. I expect you to cry and have very smooth legs. Then you’ll talk…. or it’s the bikini line and epilator on a slow setting.” 😉

  3. Unfortunately I broke work-free Friday by having a bright idea just before bed Thursday night and logging on to check if it worked Friday morning. Luckily it only took an hour’s sleuthing to confirm my guess and send off a message in Teams, and the rest of the day could then be hijacked by the darts and snooker on TV. (I did get the washing done, though, and finished both a book and jigsaw puzzle.)

  4. I was too slow to get the free snag tights, but I did buy a cheap pair on there to make sure I had guessed my size right. I might size up and get some more, bit tight on the tummy 🙂

    1. Sad times. FWIW, I got an email the next day, saying they’d run out and the IT stock system had had a problem.

Hopefully the waistband will give a little in time. I think they do a recycling scheme.
