A somewhat later post given a busy day and driving Child 2.0 there, I wait, & we go back again in the electro-dad-mobile. I should add for clarity, that the car is electric, not me. Then again, I’ve not been on charge for a long time. Might that explain the lack of get up and go?
Go and get made-up
I set off slightly later than usual for Chams. The Ever Lovely Mrs J had been to run her folks around, and holding back for thirty mins wasn’t a massive issue. Not only would it mean Child 2.0 didn’t need to look after the hounds, Mrs J would arrive while I was home, and the post rush hour traffic would clear as well.
Luckily, no one was stood outside in the cold as I drew up. So it was on with the usual unlocking and turning the A/C on to warm the room.
Given my lack of organisation, I didn’t feel sheers were in order, and given the weather, thicker opaques seemed the right choice. I’d packed two outfits, the monochrome flowers and the black with lemons. Both were nice, but with the monochrome being a little shorter, I felt more confident in opaques with it.
I had a good catch-up with Val while I got ready. Usually we have a natter during the evening or as it’s time to close up, but due to an early start for her, we had an earlier conversation (hope you’re not too tired, Mrs! 💜).
The evening was filled with good natured laughter and various topics of conversation. We had a new lady come along for her first visit, bless her. Apparently she’d been wanting to come for a while, but things kept getting in the way. But, the stars aligned – no, not like that Lovecraft fans 😉 – and her luck held out.
Getting out to see everyone really helped; hearing what people had been up to, and others taking a kind interest in me as well.

Any of the following nonsense ring any bells…?
- We mustn’t allow the peasants be included with us royals. I mean, their culture is not like ours, and just look at them! Uneducated, unwashed, etc.
- We mustn’t allow the working people be included with voting. I mean, their culture is not like ours, and just look at them! Uneducated.
- We mustn’t allow women to be included with voting. I mean, their behaviour is not like ours. They should be in the home, not fretting their minds with the complex affairs of state.
- We mustn’t allow those people with darker skin the same rights as us. I mean, yes, we invited them to work here but their behaviour is not like ours. They’ll be wanting to have families and stay here next!
- We mustn’t allow women to take over the workplace. I mean, yes, we invited them to work here, and we post then less. But men are naturally better leaders and don’t go off to have babies.
- We shouldn’t allow hippies in here. They’re unwashed, use drugs, and their culture isn’t like ours.
- We mustn’t allow gay people the same rights as us. I mean, marriage? That’s a special institution just for a man and a woman. Their behaviour is not like ours.
- We mustn’t allow trans people into our spaces and have the same rights as us. I mean their culture and bodies are not like ours!
A seemingly never ending cycle of punch down gatekeeping. Stay in your lane, do not challenge the status quo. It’s okay to be the group with the power and decide who doesn’t get any.
Yeah? Well f*** that noise.
All of the rights we have today, someone in the past objected to them. Challenges were made and eventually we learned, we improved, and we changed.
But, it ain’t easy living through it 🏳️🌈

And as for the shizz, well, yes, that’s a broken record that’s gone on since time began. It’s being played very loudly at the moment and attracting some very nasty characters out of the woodwork. Hey, it’s good to come out when you’re feeling happy in yourself, but not when you feel hate for others.

Thanks, Sue. It’s an old dress and one I love for winter. I think it’s a good thing to have some favourites you can draw on. Ah, are we back to the Richmond Jones hypothesis, of wear something that makes you feel pretty? 🙂
As to the shizz being exploited and, perhaps even, over reported, yes. I feel that this may have to play out and eventually society will move on. It won’t be an easy path, though.
Punch down gatekeeping. Something that weak people (in large groups) use to keep us in our place. Shameful in this day and age.
Welcome Carla and thanks for the comment. Yes, in large groups, and quite possibly small -ahem- niche view factions too. At best I think it’s unkind and at worst, gives a veneer of acceptability to what’s actually just old fashioned discrimination.
But then I would say that. Bloody liberals with their acceptance, kindness, and wanting equity for marginalised people, eh? 😉
