Voices matter

Hi, A later than usual post today. No great drama or upset, just a busy day as it’s the school holidays. Out Child 2.0 and I headed into town – quite possibly, for the first time this year – as he wanted items for the upcoming school prom. I was surprised to see how many more shops had closed up in the Broadmarsh area of Nottingham. I say area rather than the shopping centre, which has been been demolished some time ago. So many To Let signs and boarded up units. It’s like there’s a slow burning fire that’s crept up the hill, touching and closing the properties. Going Backwards Talking of Child 2.0, we had a letter from the […]

It’s not me, it’s you

Hi Subscription News App, I thought we’d have a sit down over a coffee, I feel we need to talk. I’ve really enjoyed your articles, satire, and the amazing journalism you’ve been doing these last few years. Speaking truth to power and championing the rights of people. Yeah, you’re waiting for the ‘but’ aren’t you? Imagine if you will, that your news app was a restaurant: well designed, good content, and I get the things I need. Sure, some stuff isn’t to my tastes, but that’s okay; I can skip over the restaurant equivalent of the sports section. All that good stuff, and then every, say, two weeks to a month, one of your staff would wander up and spit […]

No longer tumble drying bricks

Hi, Ah, hello Bank Holiday weekend, half-term, and a cheeky non-working Friday to set things up….. and relax. 😎 Bags of Sugar When it comes to describing my mental health, my go to reference is bags of sugar. I guess we can all relate to the physical weight and bulk of said kilogramme item. Perhaps I’ve taken the phrase “mental heavy lifting” a little too literally. So, that waffle preamble aside – mmmm, waffles 🐖 – I’ve had the good fortune to work towards putting a few down of late. I guess this is a long winded way of saying I feel less overloaded 😉 But, hey, if I’d given a TL/DR (too long / didn’t read), we’d have missed […]

Mostly snark

Hi, Greetings peasants. Today’s lesson is two sexes good, 72 genders bad. Stay in your assigned lane, do not question, and no, you’re not allowed to see the evidence. Oof. Sorry about that. I must remember to remove my subscription to the Alternative Facts blogging AI. 😉 Coping mechanism #12 As I caught the headline in PinkNews this week – and, this isn’t an anti Pink News grumble! 🏳️‍🌈 – I caught sight of some white, rich, cishet person talking guff. I know, such an unusual occurrence! 😉 I paused for a moment and thought back to the other things said person, and those like them, had said. I now have a special memory bucket* and go to phrase for […]

Blue, white, & pink without the blues

Hi, How’s things, dear reader? What to talk about today, eh? I feel that there’s been a somewhat cyclical nature to my posts this year. Chams, what’s in the news, and rare times out. But then, would I grumble about a cooking blog where the author writes another post about food? 🙂 Hopefully not, so while there’s certainly going to be pattern about things, maybe it’s a case of YATGB doing what the blog name says. Trans History Week 2024 I’m going to say I’ve been a bit remiss on this one. I noticed a few articles popping up about the first Trans History week on Pink News and I had an email from Stonewall featuring it too. There might […]

Room for improvement

Hi, Hello dear Internet trans massive from deepest, darkest Nottinghamshire. Or, as we say around here, ‘eey oop’ 🙂 Effort & Reward With parenting, work, and – if I’m honest – being quite lazy, my energy levels and effort put in to trying to stay feeling femme has slipped of late. Well…. to be fair, one does not rush in between waxing appointments, as there needs to be some level of – ick! 😲 – regrowth. Cue that annoying/dysphoric period where you need to have enough back, but you shouldn’t shave to keep that area hair free. In my case, my knees. But, hey, if that’s all I’ve got to worry about, life’s not too bad eh? 🙂 So, midweek […]
