Wax on, wax off

Hi,

Shall we have a round of good news? Just for a change of thoughtful introspection, worry, or talk of coping. 🙂

Wish List

With the summer holidays coming to a close and a change from short to long trousers, I dared to dream of being rid of the accursed leg fluff. Usually, I would opt for the epilator and wince my way through the process. But with another decade on the clock not too far away, I felt now was the time for something off the wish list. I mean, I’ve heard it said that you should aim for experiences and memories, rather than possessions.

After a quick look online, I found a waxing specialist in a nearby village and – bonus – they stated they where LGBTQ+ friendly 🏳️‍🌈 I got in touch via email and this was mainly to check they’d be okay performing a full leg wax on a customer like me. The good news was that they were perfectly fine with that and had a gap this week.

So, as a group of fit men with waxed legs cycled around the UK, I made my way to the next village along and got my wish. Well, two really: so long leg fluff and hello happy memory. ❤️

The process wasn’t too painful – certainly less so that epilating. It was also quicker and considerably more thorough. Maybe the conversation and novelty of the situation helped, but I’d absolutely recommend waxing over an epilator now. I guess we’ll see about regrowth, but there’s hardly any redness or bumps. Having this treat, well, it really put a spring in my step and my legs feel/look like they should.

Chams

Given I wasn’t sure how my legs might have been, I left packing to the evening. To give some comparison, if I epilate my chest, I need to do that on Sunday for the redness and bumps to be gone for Thursday. I guess that explains why I usually just shave it.

Anyway, I packed two dresses – always have a backup 🙂 – and two pairs of heels. One pair I’d had in the shoe stretcher, but I’m guessing they need a more of a go. That or a visit to Timpsons.

On arrival, I bumped into Izzy – or rather, the yet to be transformed version 🙂 Sometimes folk arrived dressed at Chams, and sometimes they need to use the charging room. I guess we’re lucky in having one. As we were getting ready, my phone started to ping, as my family were discussing Queenie passing away, bless her.

The green dress with flowers I’d worn last year and trying it on again, I think the hem needs to come up to on the knee. At the mo, it’s resting on the wider part of my calf (moooo! 🐮) which is not a great look. I’ll add that to the list.

Gifts can be memories too

So, I decided to go with my backup option. I think there’s a phrase from the French that says there were a lot of people on the balcony. Certainly more eloquently put than boobs on show 😉 Oh dear, what’s that going to do to the search engines 😁 Still, perhaps it’s a good thing to push yourself a little and remember to be brave.

The Ever Lovely Mrs J had bought me this years ago for my birthday and when I see it in the cupboard, it always reminds me of her kindness and love. I know it’s not easy for partners of genderfluid folk, so such gestures go a very long way ❤️

As to the evening itself, I’d had a small clearance of my wardrobe and I took some items along for the group. The aim here was to give people first dibs and help top up the funds. Val left with a Joe Browns dress (new with tags – I should know better, although it was in the sale), while Izzy is now the (hopeful happy) owner of a fancy black dress. I hope the photos came out okay, BTW.

Other than topping up the funds, we’ve now got a teapot. This should help top drinks up and avoid reboiling the kettle as folk arrive. Is it taking it too far to find a milk jug and Lazy Susan? 🙂

All in all, a fab night out and a wealth of memories. They help keep you steady… even if I’m really feeling the ‘memory’ in both legs after my first night in heels since May 😉

Stay fabulous ❤️

  1. Well done for going for leg waxing. It’s the best way to get smoother for longer and it’s less pain than epilation. Your photos have become very weeny these days but my magnifying glass suggests the legs pass muster (and arms by the looks of it). You should get any fuzz back for about 2-3 weeks.

As for the boobs on show, well, if you’ve got it, flaunt it! I have to tell you that the French phrase “elle a du monde au balcon”, there’s quite a crowd on her balcony, is probably my favourite expression in any language ever! Though it’s less about the poodles popping out for a breath of air but about the sheer size of them. Ooh là là!

Anyway, glad you had a good meeting and have a more feminine autumn to look forward to.

    1. If you’ve got it, flaunt it. If you haven’t, accessorize 😉

To be two to three weeks without having to touch the razor, that sounds fab. I guess the downside is having to wait for enough growth for the wax to grip. Still, some you win. 👍

My arms are unusually tanned for me and with light brown hair, you don’t see much. I guess I’m lucky in that regard. I have trimmed the longer parts back with a OneBlade + hair trim attachment.

Did you ‘right click’ the image to open it in a new tab? I tend to find that helps when trying to see detail, such as jewelry or similar.

Thanks for the translation. I’m afraid I did doubletake when I misread balcony for bacon 🐖😁 It’s a lovely turn of phrase. There’s also “Ain’t my circus. Ain’t my monkeys”which is beautifully evocative. I think it’s about not getting drawn in to other drama.

So, a fab day all told and one for the happy memory list.

      1. Thank you for the right click tip. It took me a while but on my Mac thingy it’s a sort of two-fingered poke, like you do when someone’s really annoyed you. Or not, if you’re a nice person. The waxed legs are indeed looking good! As for the bacon butties, they seem well enough filled!

When to rewax was always an issue for me. After about a week’s growth, I felt. It’s tempting to shave any new fuzz and that means the next wax is less effective. So you do have a few days when you feel you need clothes to cover the spider-hair legs. My guess is you’ll make it to the next Chams meeting and then have to redo. But it also depends on the person. If you’re a slow-grower then you may get many weeks out of one wax. Left to my own devices I can grow a full gorilla pelt in about three weeks so my regime is a little more drastic.

        Enjoy the smoothness.

        Sue xx

  2. I’ve just had two ‘not bacon’ and egg soft cobs*. No piggies were harmed in the creation of said lunch 🐖

( A ‘cob’ in Nottingham is not a male swan nor a big loaf, but like a burger bun 🙂).

Good to hear you can now zoom in on photos of needed.

Thanks for the advice and experience on regrowth. The outside of my calves has gone bald. The inside week grow back, but not as quickly as my upper legs do. However, compared to shaving and epilation, my skin feels great. Fingers crossed for slow regrowth and restrip in October.

  3. Hurray for good news but I’m always happy to read your posts whether good or not.

Congratulations on the leg waxing, it must be great not having to endure prickly legs days later. I’ve given some thought to waxing services myself, especially full leg waxing. I take it they wax quite far up the back of your legs as well as the front?

Love your dress in the photo Lynn, what a lovely gift too. As usual you look fab and I don’t think there’s too much crowd on the balcony which is good.

    1. Thank you for the lovely words about looking forward to a post. As to the dress as a gift, it’s also the acceptance of who I am and the kindness to look for something special. The dress is from Desigual and out of my price range, but Mrs J tracked down somewhere much more affordable, bless her. ❤️

I guess the height of the waxing depends on the specialist and what you are okay with. While I don’t wear anything short, I don’t like having hairy legs. They don’t feel right on me, so getting rid of all of that made me feel much more at ease with my body.

To answer your question on how far, on me, and hopefully not over sharing here 🤭 the treatment covered feet and up to the inner thigh and towards the bikini line at the front. I’d read not to wear your bestest undies as you’d be moving them about and wax may get stuck on them At the back, it was to the start of my bum, and there’s nothing on the outer thigh / outer hip. I was fuzz free when I put on my shapewear knickers (I wonder if Bridget Jones is part of our family tree? 😁).

So, no prickles yet nor any itching. Conversely, I shaved my chest on Thursday afternoon and – to reuse Sue’s term – there’s definitely some spider leg visibility. Hmmm. Maybe a chest wax as well next time? 🤔

If you do find a salon, good luck and please do share how you get on.

  4. Interesting that you found waxing less painful and giving better results than epilation. Perhaps I should make some discreet enquiries. The newly waxed pins do indeed look fabulous in your photo.
We need to something about the view from the balcony though. My own attempt with taping proved less than successful and actually quite sore and painful when I removed the tape , even though it was surgical tape rather than industrial grade gaffer tape.
Mrs J has a nice eye for striking dresses. That must have been quite a gift.
Hey what’s all this about Lazy Susan? I’ll have you know I’ve had quite a busy and productive morning today.

    1. Ha ha! Most definitely not a lazy Susie 😁 TBH, I’d not heard of the term until a few years back. Looking online, it seems they – Lazy Susan’s – have quite a history and may be a brand name that’s replaced the word dumbwaiter. That’s all from Dictionary corner…. 😉

As to pain levels, significantly less painful on the lower legs, knees, and feet. I did get two ow points that took my breath. Both where towards the upper thigh area, where it was difficult to keep the skin taught. But I’d gladly swap those moments compared to the epilator.

If you’ve been shaving your legs for a while, perhaps as Sue mentions, you may need to give it some time for regrowth. Sorry to hear the tape was a touch painful. Have you tried the inch wide tape from Boots? It’s strong enough and I think is sold for strapping a muscle. Comes off fairly well, but you need to be careful and not overpull. For me, teaming that with two sets of chicken fillets does the trick. The fillets help with volume and lift, while the tape adds a touch of cleavage. A light dusting with bronzing powder helps too.

As I said to Lotte and Sue, it was a beautiful gift and one made with love ❤️

  5. Thanks for answering my question on how far, up they wax, much appreciated Lynn.

If they’re prepared to go that high then that is great as that’s how far up I shave. I no what you mean about having hairy legs and it’s the best feeling in the world when they’re smooth.

I’d love a chest and back wax too, hopefully in 2023 I’ll make that happen.

    1. No problem, Lotte. FWIW, in the email to the beautician, I did say I was genderfluid and wanted a full leg wax. I also asked if this would be okay, as I didn’t want to cause any upset, if that makes sense. The owner was really cool about it all, so that made it easier as well

  6. I am a very happy owner of said dress and the photo’s were lovely thankyou !

Well I think your frontage looked perfectly respectable, I really must give it a go sometime.

    1. Hurray for good news! 🌟 Good to hear the photos came out okay and that you’re happy with the dress. I thought you looked fab in it as well.

Good luck with the tape and padding if you give things a try. If it helps, feel free to compare notes on the night.

  7. The dress & you looks Nice/Pretty🎀👍 & what else I see arms/No-hair also looks really good to. 1. Hi Kara. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share your experiences.

Good to hear that you had a such positive and accepting experience as well. My treatment was also in ‘bloke mode’.

As to the arms, no waxing or shaving there. A lucky combination of room lighting, having caught the sun, and pale/sparse arm hair. I do trim the darker strands up near my elbow, but I feel quite blessed not to be as -ahem- follically gifted as some men I see. That would not sit well with me.
